LOL, here we go again.

I was under the impression that the IPC of the GPU isn't changing much. Any performance gain will be based on how many more EUs it gets and if they decide to raise the clock speed.

Haswell iGPU IPC will probably increase over Ivy Bridge, so when you compare them with equal number of units, Haswell will end up being somewhat faster.

But scaling isn't of course perfect, so it may end up with 2-2.5x gain when they scale it up.

You still got that completely backwards. Applications that don't actively share data between threads are easy to multi-thread. TSX helps with the cases that are hard to multi-thread. Homeles is right; TSX will encourage developers to write more multi-threaded code (or have it multi-threaded automatically by compilers).

Intel TSX Applicability
Intel TSX targets a certain class of shared-memory multi-threaded applications; specifically multi-threaded applications that actively share data. Intel TSX is about allowing programs to achieve fine-grain lock performance without requiring the complexity of reasoning about fine-grain locking.
However, if there is high data contention the algorithm would need to change in order to have an opportunity for high scalability. There are no magic bullets that can solve the problem, since true high data contention implies that the algorithm is effectively serialized.

They're getting less expensive every day. Acer and Samsung already have <U$700 models with Core i5 Ivy Bridges (here and here), I woundt be surprised to see <U$650 models with Core i3s IBs very soon.
