I kept my old pump, and later rebuilt it, just to have around when the new one finally kicks the bucket. (hint) Also have a back-up generator, and an alarm on the system so loud the neighbors can hear it if we're away.

Next time, make a thread here. Someone will answer it within minutes.

Alternative, search for "how to change a sump pump <or whatever it is next time>" on youtube. I'm sure there are dozens of excellent how-to videos on how to do it.

i don't even use close family connections to ask questions about this shit

like take 5 god damn minutes and say "yo, sump pump?" no... just sit on my dumb ass and play video games after work.

how the hell my ex wife stayed married with me for 5+ years i will never know... oh yeah that's right she was so busy with her studies and career that she didn't even have time to divorce me. fml

you got a home depot or crappy tire nearby no? they should be able to answer this kind of question.

oh hell yeah. all over the place.

put it this way... basically every known force in the universe was conspiring to have me install a new sump pump, and i simply ignored every one of them in lieu of one of the most epic fails of my lifetime.

the great sump pump fail of 2011 will not be soon forgotten.

literally, this is a wake up call for me... you have no idea. i can't even be considered the man of the house, and i'm the only person that lives here.

Dude...seriously...a sump pump takes like 15 minutes to replace. You buy a new pump, you unscrew the pipe from the old pump, you screw in the pipe to the new one, and plug it in.

I just changed mine and it took 11 minutes flat. Do you have some weird nuclear powered one or something? $650 for installation is ridiculous! A pump costs around $100.
Cheap pump cost around $70~$150, better pump cost around $300.

I would go with a cheap pump.

i sent the company a whiny email.

but seriously, it shouldn't be making this much noise

i'll probably get fucked out of a couple hundred more when they come back to "fix" it

no and there is only a 1-year warranty on it.

not to mention, when i heard it kick on a while ago, it made a loud sucking / gurgling noise and the pump stayed on for quite a while even after all the water was pumped out.

so now i am dealing with the quadruple fail possibility of having a shitty installation done on top of getting completely f'n hosed
It is possible that the check valve failed or weren't installed in the new setup.

Picture of said sump pump and the line from roof down to pump & I'll tell you if it have a check valve or not.

I'll walk you through the process of adding check valve if needed for less than $40.

*fist pound*

i love how this thing is about as loud as my washer and it's located almost directly below where i like to sit on my couch. it's like a constant reminder of suck. every 5 mins or so i get the extremely sucky reminder of how much i suck.

Really depressed today. This on top of being alone all the time... I'm super super emo... Probably need some more counseling to de-FML my life. Or cardio, or both.

Yea I was about to ask where all these "good" sump pumps are for $100.

I have a good one installed now, came with house, but bought a cheapy $70 type model from Harborfreight as a backup.
N.VA has a lot of basments and after a heavy storm a lot of places run out. So I did not want to take a chance and its cheap insurance.

FML is a PITA to deal with, but, it's got nice features since it helps processes talk to one another.
