it was open box at 1/2 off, a 35ft hdmi cable from their M series. I just bought a 3D projector, and been looking for a 30-35ft hdmi cable for it as my existing one from monoprice probably won't handle 3D. I know I can get one from Monoprice for around $40, but they are not offically labelled as high speed and can support 3D. Some user reviews saying they are using it for their 3D projector, but I notice they have the same reviews for different hdmi cables, so wonder about the credibility of those reviews. A good one in this length is around $100, so I am ok with spending $175 for one that I know it will work. Peace of mind is worth something. With their cable for life policy, if this cable is outdated, I can send it in for a new one. Yeah for me! :p

Monster cables are fine. The only thing people complain about are their prices, and quite honestly $175 for a high quality 35' HDMI 1.4a cable is fine by me. Monster make some great quality cables, especially their M series.

Just curious but why didn't you just try your existing one first before buying a new cable? Chances are it would work just fine.

I guess it's better to have one ready than need it and not have it. I will definitely try that once I have my projector, the dealer screwed up my order, and some how didn't order my projector, so it won't get it probably until next Friday.

I would never buy a Monster cable myself (unless it was like 90% off on clearance), but there's a big difference between Monster and Bose. Monster sells good quality at insane prices and exaggerates their claims on the difference they make. Bose sells inferior quality at high prices and goes to great lengths to keep you from comparing them to other mid-high end speakers systems.

I wouldn't BUY Monster, but I wouldn't OWN Bose.

If I'm not mistaken, the projector your ordered was a JVC DLA-RS65, correct?

I'd say Monster is "higher priced" rather than "insane." "Insane" is Audioquest and Nordost.

I wish...RS65 is out of my price range, I got a Sony VPL-VW95ES. I ruled out RS55 due to JVC lamp dimming history, higher price, and supposingly VW95ES handles motions better and less ghosting with 3D.

That's a great projector too. I really like Sony projectors. They produce a great PQ quality and are also pretty dang quiet.

I love Sony video stuff, the PQ just look better to me. Their audio stuff is a totally different story. This will replace a ~8yr old 720p Sony projector, VPL-HS20, the improvement should be very noticeable.

Unless you're doing extremely long cable runs, the brand of the cable shouldn't really matter. Cost is always up to you and what you are willing to pay for.

I'm willing to pay a reasonable premium for quality, not an outlandish premium for advertising.

I don't think $175 for a quality 35' 1.4a HDMI cable is "outlandish." A little higher than other quality cables, but nothing crazy. In comparison, BJC sells their quality 35' HDMI cables for about $120.

He got it on clearance. The retail on that cable is 450. Amazon has it "marked down" to 299.

Good quality, insane pricing. If someone gives it to you, or you can find it at a fraction of the price, by all means use it.

I still have some leftover Monster component cables back from before I didn't know any better.

For what it's worth, they are well made. Still not worth the $40 I paid for them, but still decent quality.

Or Ram Electronics

http://www.ramelectronics.net

Their premium Silver 1.4 HDMI 40' cable is still only $73... You could have gotten a 50' cable and still saved $90. In those terms that is 3 brand new blu-rays at full retail price....

Again, I am not saying Monster is a bad cable, just way over priced. If you can get them at a good price they are worth it, but I am not sure you really did that, even at half off, more like 75% off and they hit the good price. I bought a bunch of their speaker wire once when a Radio Shack was closing, and I got it at 90% off, at which point it was worth it.
