I know in a desktop that if you put in faster ram than what it comes equipped with that it will just run at the default speed(unless you change it) and that you really don't have to worry about power draw of the ram. Would I have to worry about the the power drawn of a higher grade stick of ram in a laptop or am I just over analyzing it?
 
I don't think that you should worry. If the mems work @667 then that means that your laptop supports that speed grade and the machine is fully capable of supplying the needed juice. If the mems downclock to 533 then the mems will require less juice to operate than what they would if working at their nominal speed and the machine will still be able to cope with it..

I've recently upgraded the mem on 2 Acer Aspire 5920G laptops. The 2nd just about an hour ago (memtest is still running on it as I type). Both machines came with 2x1GB sticks. 1 of the machines was equiped with PC2-4200 while the other had PC2-5300 (Hyundai & Hynix). I've used G.Skill's F2-6400CL5D-4GBSQ which is a 2x2GB kit of PC2-6400 on both machines and the mems were automatically downclocked to PC2-5300 without any problems. What is more interesting is that the mems work flawlessly despite the fact that they luck an SPD profile for that speed grade (667).
