EDIT-Called Dell Small Business @ 800-757-8434, they are offering video upgrade to WSXGA for $70.

Another great deal posted by ActiveX, thank you 🙂

It's a damn shame you can't upgrade the LCD resolution because WSXGA would be perfect.

Yes, you just can't use Dell Home Coupons or DPA. But you can just check out and purchase it with a credit card.

how is latitude compared to vostro? better or worse?

buying for sis, who just needs it for web, email, and itunes

no DVDRW, only 80GB, only 1GB RAM -meh-
seen better Vostro 1500 deal end of last year (nov/dec , $599) that had a dedicated gf8400, 120GB hdd, and 2GB RAM w/XP home.
This system's advantage is a slightly faster cpu clock and 3yr warranty...
have no opinion on the video card difference in value- Quadro doesn't mean much unless what? Autocad/openGl rendering?

Technically the Latitude is better but I think this is an older model.

I've seen a Vostro 1400 in person and I was impressed. It was slick, the build quality was excellent, great size, fast, cheap and nice LCD. I love my Latitude D630 but if I needed a sub $600 laptop, I would probably buy the Vostro 1400 for $549.

i thought latitude was the higher-end business class machine vs. vostro which is a budget class laptop?

also, if you have invested $$$ in the earlier latitude accessories, you can most likely re-use them with later latitude laptops (like moving from d500 to d820)

i compared hp nc8430 and d820 last year when i was looking to buy a traveling laptop (i chose hp) because of their features like hdd motion sensor, fingerprint scanner, default 3 year warranty, etc. i have never owned vostro so i cannot attest to its build quality but d820 was built much like the old ibm thinkpads (as is the case with nc8430).
