I find that I need to learn Latex to prepare documents for my work.

I was wondering if there was a nice little app, kind of like a WYSIWYG setup in parallel with being able to see the Latex script simulataneously. Just like fancy webpage editors like Dreamweaver or Visual Studio. It can be be either a linux or Windows app. As long as it gives me complete control over the Latex code.

Currently, I must use "vi" in unix and then run a series of commands in unix to convert the thing into a PDF. Since I am learning, I'd much rather have a more accessible environment to play around with.

Any suggestions? Does such an application exist?

Hi-

I like winshell (for win32), http://www.winshell.de/ . It isn't really WYSIWYG, but to view a document you just need to click a button to generate a .pdf file and another button to open it (in a new window), which should be a little easier.
