Latest version of Steam has removed AMD driver updates?

On both computers that I've done the recent Steam update on that was released [6th of January '12], the 'Update AMD Video Drivers' option appears to have been removed.

I don't update my drivers through Steam, although I am curious as to why this change seems to have appeared.

AMD has auto updating for there drivers now.

Yeah, I know that.
But it's taken a while for Valve to remove the option. So I suppose that's why it seemed slightly strange.

Still, I'm always on pre-release drivers anyway. Rarely using WHQLs. Best place for pre-release drivers is Guru3D.

UPDATE: It appears that the option to 'Check for Video Driver Updates' has returned. (Most likely today or a couple of days ago - I did notice a Steam platform update today).

So, we supposed that it was removed because of AMD implementing automatic driver update notifications through the CCC.
So then, why has it returned?
