Why purchase this program? I personally think it sucks compared to Xnews which happens to be free. Agent IS better than outlook express but agent doesn't include easy methods to search through newsgroups.

If you like Agent then I think you should check out Xnews. The only complaint I have about Xnews is that it isn't very efficient with memory.

I've tried Xnews, and quickly came back to Agent. I like the ease of driving Agent via simple keyboard shortcuts, and this allows me to use the program without a mouse or trackball. I've used Agent for at least 6 years and have become so accustomed to how the software works that I don't even need to think about what keys to press when -- by the time I've thought about that, my fingers have already moved ahead several steps!

Best $30 I've ever spent on a piece of software.

I happen to agree with you there. When working with binaries or anything for that matter it's much better. If you get to tweak the ini file this thing really smokes.

On the other hand eveyrone has their own style and preference I guess.

Well I admit for normally newsgroup reading, Agent kicks the crap out of Xnews. Xnews is not very good at reading newsgroups. BUT for binaries, I just don't think Agent can hold a candle to it.

Ah, well I primarily use Agent for reading text newsgroups. It's the best Usenet reader software I've found for Windows.

There's one thing that I noticed with Agent 1.92. When downloading a larger binary file (e.g. 130+ MB), the .dat file associated with the download was just a little short of 220 MB when the download completed. This seems like quite a lot of "overhead" (90 MB??) for downloading a 130 MB file. Or, is there something I'm missing? I've used NewzMiner before and can't really recall it being this "in-efficient."
