Latest PS3 Slim rumors - Coming in August possibly tied with Madden

First, it was the IGN Game Scoop! Podcast where it is hard to tell if they are joking about a PS3 or not.

The transcript at the 45 minute mark goes:

?Because we have one for real.?

?Yeah, but that?s...?

?Yeah, but that?s under wraps.?

?Sorry, I wasn?t supposed to say that, was I??

?We can edit that out. David can edit that out.?

?45 minutes. OK.?

And now, the 1UP Podcast jumps in the game where David Ellis states that, "It?s gonna be in August. Everything I?ve heard says it?s coming in August, it?s tied with Madden.?

Madden is slated for an Aug 14th release so that's right around the corner if true.

edit: Corrected the title to note that the Slim release would be tied in with Madden's release. Not necessarily bundled. Thanks for pointing that out erwos.

PS3 Slim Bundled w/ Madden - $499

Seem about right?

I think if you see a Slim model that launches with Madden 10, you're likely looking at $350 without, $399 with.

I just bought a Ps3 yesterday with The Show 09, should I consider returning it and waiting for the slim with the price drop? I'd MUCH rather have Madden....

I'd say it depends on the price.

If they cost the same, I'd keep the PS3 with The Show, mainly because if you get Madden, you'd probably want it for the 360, no?

The important question here is, will the price drop be enough for Queasy's better half to OK a purchase 😉

Ha! It will probably take more than just a price cut. 🙂

"Tied with Madden" does not imply a Madden bundle to me - they're just trying to capitalize on the insane numbers that Madden sells by releasing the new system at that time.

The real question is whether a price drop will be involved.

True. MS timed one of their price cuts at the same time as Madden 08 to maximize sales.

Well, that's a good question. Is the online play better on the 360 for sports games? Graphics are about the same?

EA regularly yanks online support for old versions of Madden. Does anyone happen to know if Madden on the 360 is still using EA's servers, or if they've switched to XBL?

In the latter case, there may be something of an advantage to the 360 version.

They still use EA's servers for authentication and whatnot. Most EA games do, and all their sports games do. The advantage to the 360 is just the number of people playing, number of people with headsets, and the controller (if you prefer it).

Also, as far as the Gamescoop podcast goes, they said they had a PS3 slim jokingly, because they created a spoof video of the one released on youtube.

I watched a video of madden 10. They have camera flashes all the time in the crowd, it is very distracting, I hope you can turn that off.

I think they will announce it at that august 1st games conference -- i think it is leipzig conference?

Leipzig has been canceled for this year. Link

In its place will be Game Convention Online, an event aimed at the browser gaming market, to take place July 31 to August 2, 2009.

There is one in Cologne starting on Aug 19th.

Sony is having their big three hour press conference August 18th

The SixthAxis speculates that we'll see:

The PS3 Slim
More of the PSPgo
Price Cut
Firmware 3.0
European Video Store
More on Home
More Accessories (Wand, Eyetoy, Eye Pet, etc)
More Games (LBP2, GT5, GT PSP, Heavy Rain, etc)

Leave Madden alone. I can't imagine Thanksgiving without him.

I thought it was incredibly easy to tell that they were joking and rumor baiting. Ask yourself why they didnt actually edit it out.

But the slim is coming soon anyway....its virtually inevitable.
