Agreed Skoorb... but its fun to watch the die hard conservatives squirm... I dont think McCain is so bad (he's not George Dubbya) but its still fun.

I agree. Although I actually very much liked John McCain before he threw all of this principles away for this election (and even then I can't really fault him too much - it is politics after all) he needs to be destroyed so badly and crushed so low to the ground in this election that we the American people don't see him for quite some time.

I loved McCain before he sold his soul to the Bush administration (I was raised in AZ). He used to really be a maverick, but in the last 8 years he decided to fall in line with the rest of the Bush cronies.

not a huge surprise, I'm not sure if McCain/Palin could have had a worse week.

Wait til Thursday. :p

with expectations this low, Palin will be hailed as the second coming of Kennedy if she makes it across the stage without tripping.

ROFLMFAO !!!

Sad but true observation!!

That would be real great so then the republicans will put a ultra righty next time. If they put up a moderate and get crushed they will turn 180 and put someone up who makes Palin look liberal.

This election was over once the wallstreet crisis hit the news. The MSM framed it perfectly for Obama putting all the blame on McCain. The public has fallen for it hence Obama winning by 25-35 points come nov 4th.

Obama won't win by anywhere close to that margin. If he wins by 5 points or more I will be shocked. I do agree that it's quite likely Obama will win the election, but it's always been that way. I'm not sure where you're getting the crazy idea that Obama is suddenly going to bury McCain by 30 points, but it simply won't happen.

I also doubt that this loss will motivate them to nominate an ultra right wing candidate next time. (of course lots can happen in 4 years) The only thing that has kept this election even moderately close is McCain's perceived moderation. A hard core ultra right winger would have been slaughtered.

Finally, your blame on the media is ridiculous. This crisis is generally viewed as being a mixture of many elements for which both parties share blame, but a very large part of it is due to failed deregulation. This sucks for McCain because he's spent 26 years fighting for less regulation. It doesn't make his policies suddenly bad, but it does make it very difficult for someone to credibly frame themselves as the champion of regulation after that. His career framed him poorly for this issue, not the media.

This. It's not McCain's fault, and I haven't seen any news stories pinning it on him. However, his history of supporting deregulation is biting him in the ass now that a lack of regulation (coupled with ridiculous greed) caused an economic crisis.

Actually I think the same short attention span, SNL skits and voters getting their news from 5 minute clips is going to give Obama a win.
Much like Bush in 2004.

What has happened is people have tacked Mccain with the dreaded economy news and put the blame on him simply because he is a republican, like Bush.
Guilt by association. Much like how Bush won in 2004 via 9/11.

As an Obama supporter, I think thats GREAT!
But I can feel the republicans frustration. Still, its good news for the blue party.

The economy tanking was the best thing that ever happened to the Obama campaign.
As to Mccain, it doesn?t matter. He's a republican... he's screwed.
Also, if Al Franken does win in Minnesota, then we'll know republicans are totally screwed.

Agreed. Was it not Kerry that lost Ohio by a small margin and then it came out he had millions in money he could have spent on that and other states that could have been the difference.

Also I agree VA is in play, I live here in N.VA now. But NC will most probabley stay red. There are just way to many people in NC that would never vote for a black person. I have some friends that still live there and they would not vote republican after Bush but would never vote a black person either. So unless they go to vote and just can;t vote 3rd party or republican I just can;t see Obama getting NC.

It's just as well for the GOP that they lose. They've generally abandoned their principles wholesale, and it was time for a cleansing. As Lord Acton noted, power corrupts, and the GOP was thoroughly corrupted when they lost Congress in 2006. Besides, they're a much better minority party than majority party anyway. Plus, the last time the Dems controlled both ends of Penn. Ave., it lasted all of two years before the voters had had enough of that. Once the Dems actually get power and start failing to deliver on their promises, it'll be their turn to catch the blame. Should be fun to watch them squirm for a change.

I would expect to see the polls jump back towards McCain a bit before the election.
Obama may still win though.

But as people on here have said this has been the worst possible week McCain could have.
And with Bush and the Republicans taking all the blame for our economic troubles it makes sense that we are seeing a knee jerk reaction among the voters right now.

I think we have a bunch of pissed off people who are taking their anger out by picking Obama. I doubt this anger will last another 5 weeks though.

Finally, McCain needs to go on the offensive against Obama. Get ugly without getting personal. Hammer Obama on the things that middle of the road Americans will not like about him, not the sex ed for 5 year stuff that pisses off the right. Talk about Obama's record when it comes to spending. The $50+ million spent to improve Chicago's education that did NOTHING. The money he gave to supporters to build low income houses that fell apart just a few years later. Obama's opposition to gang related crime law and combine that with the 100+ murders in Chicago over the summer.

Obama is a 'government is the solution' liberal and McCain has to point this out and provide specific examples where Obama has put his ideology to work and produced failure.

If government isn't the solution how come McCain went to Washington to get through a government bailout? Do you ever get your head out and look at what is going on?

Government is not the solution to EVERY problem as Obama seems to think. That was my point.

"Seems to think" isn't much of a standard of proof. But I get your point. When Republicans say government IS the solution to this or that, they are right in that assessment, but when Democrats say government is the solution to this or that, THEY are wrong.

What I would suggest then is that Republicans stop saying that government isn't the solution but that Republican suggested government solutions only are the only solutions. That way they wouldn't sound so much like lying lunatics.
