This is a good sign.

Verizon bringing back thousands of jobs after sending them to India.

They set up a Call Center in South Carolina for much lower wages than previous positions in Morristown New Jersey but at least the jobs are back here in the English Speaking U.S.A.

Whats interesting is this Center is in the backyard of BellSouth and BellSouth just completed shipping all of it's Call Center jobs to India. People have been pissed at Verizon's India Call Center and there has been calls for BellSouth to be renamed IndiaSouth.

Also interesting how Verizon makes no mention of it's falied experiment sending it;s jobs to India, hmmmm

8-10-2004 Verizon Planning Call Center in S.C.

Verizon Wireless is planning to open a new call center that will employee 850 people in North Charleston, according to a published report.

Verizon closed an 850-person call center in Morristown, N.J., earlier this year and eliminated hundreds of other positions at another facility in Orangeburg, N.Y.

At the time, the company said the jobs would be transferred to two new call centers by next year.

Ha , India victim of it's own success. Utilities cannot supply infrastructure demand, not enough power even for the buildings.

8-18-2004 India's crumbling 'Silicon Valley' losing its lustre

BANGALORE, India (AFP) - The success of India's hi-tech and outsourcing industry was built on Bangalore, but the southern city where the boom began has now become a victim of its own success.

The rapid growth is putting major pressure on the city's already congested roads and software firms complain that acute power cuts are taking a toll on business.

"There is no doubt infrastructure has worsened over the last three years," said Avinash Vashistha, managing director of NeoIT, an outsourcing and software development firm here. "Bangalore is not a desirable place to live anymore."

He said living costs were also being driven up by a shortage of hotels and quality apartments.

That's the most godawful expression of jealousy and pettiness I've seen on these boards - and that's saying a lot! You are gloating over someone else's failure - that takes a special kind of douchebag. You truly are in a class of your own, Dave

Thank you. I am an equally opportunity Basher. Just as I have no sympathy for Greedy Bastages in the U.S. when the local Politicos do not plan or keep up infrastructure properly here.

Amazing how the Greed and Power and the resulting failure and loss of quality of life is universal yet Rich Elitists unaffected personally attack me personally for pointing out their atrocities.

There is no excuse other than Greed and Power for a Government and the Corporate Thugs to overdevelop anywhere at the expense of basic human needs and quality of life wheter it be in the U.S. or abroad.

You have seen me bash the local Governments when I lived in Georgia where the Political Thugs owned by the Corporate and Housing Builders build massive subdivisions and Industrial Parks on 2 lane Country roads and bridges and purposely plan Gridlock. It is not any different in India that they allow massive building for the U.S. Corporate Thugs looking to make quick, easy and more profits off of the Indian Population at their expense by not even investing in Power plant generation first to supply the new Greed Buildings of Corporate Power.

If anyone wants to call what I see as the sad and going backwards state of humanity as jealousy and pettiness then fine. I thought as we move forward in time and call ourselves "intelligent" that we would look out for the overall good and conditions of humanity rather than making things worse, so be it, call me whatever you'd like.

This clearly shows where the minds of people are now, not just in the U.S, but the "Global Economy" is am equal opportunity Cesspit for humanity. Cool :D

No need to stay out of the threads.

It is horrible what has happened over their in India. There is no excuse for having to go without electricity because of the Greedy Corporations.

Just seems that it is the Bed they made and chose to lie in.

By the way, more jobs are out-sourced into the United States than out of (according to the Economist), and that's before you ever get to the theoretical benefits of large capitalist economies out-sourcing their low-wage production jobs.

Which part is proven to be bull$#!+? The fact that more jobs are out-sourced into the U.S. than out of or that out-sourcing has benefits? I'm taking the Economist's word on the former because they're more or less a periodical god to me and I've never found them to be particularly misleading or ignorant. As for the latter, just about every economist on the face of the planet agrees with that so I doubt you can legitimately say that it's been disproven.

This has been discussed quite a bit in here. Initially what you are saying with the low paying unkilled jobs was true but that is no longer the case and you and the "Economist" can not refute that.

You are obviously squawking very old data. As Ann Robinson would say "Goodbye".

I'm afraid I still don't understand what you're disagreeing with. The usefulness of out-sourcing low paying jobs is indeed agreed upon almost universally by economists, but it appears that you may be thinking that I'm saying that all out-sourced jobs are low-paying. I didn't say any such thing, as I know better, but the majority of them are low-paying in nature. From the general tone of things it seems that the mill workers in my area have some allies in the tech sector now that you share a common enemy. ;)

And seriously, is there really a call for being crudely dismissive? At best you're avoiding a potentially enlightening discussion and at worst you may be making a fool of yourself by assuming something that isn't the case.
