latest bond kind of sucks

all in the title.

finally broke down and ordered Casino Royale on On Demand.

overal it's a disappointment and he just doesn't capture the essence of bond.

You're right, it's nothing like the old Bond movies. However, I liked the direction they took with Casino Royale... it was refreshing.

really?

i fell asleep about 4 times watching it.

It's a lot like when they threw out the Adam West version of Bat Man and brought in Christian Bale.

Great improvement.

I liked CR. James Bond gets his ass kicked (OK... it wasn't his ass) and he spends a lengthy time in a hospital recovering. It worked for me. I like this Bond better than the near cartoonish character that made the series. Sorry.

I enjoyed it except for the love story near the end; it could have done without that. The new Bond is much better than the recent Bond films, that's for sure.

It was by far the best Bond movie ever. It was most true to the character of the novels. While I like the stylishness of Sean Connery's Bond, the Bond of the movies was awfully cartoonish. The Bond of the Casino Royale remake is an ass-kicker.

Other things I liked about it:

- more realistic pacing
- much more realistic action (in the older movies, Bond is constantly relying on unrealistic cliffhanger-type saves but doesn't actually fight very well)
- less hammy acting (no de rigeur death quips etc.)
- Daniel Craig (plenty of charisma, and much more physically believable than any other Bond, especially Roger Moore)
- good storytelling, without heavy reliance on hokey gadgetry
- the bad guy doesn't intentionally leave Bond in a situation he can easily escape from
- top-notch supporting actors across the board

I could go on.

Yeah, but it's in the story. The problem with Bond love stories comes in when they're repeated over and over. In the novels, though, which you have to remember are pulp fiction, Bond is a ladykiller and gets into bed with lots of women characters. At least in this one it wasn't campy.

I hope that someone pays decent money for a good new script that's true to the Bond character of the books, and I'd certainly be happy enough if there was no love story involved.

I hated how Bond let his guard down and the movie became this huge lovescene for 20 minutes....but it was good other than that.

There was something about it that made it more enjoyable than the more recent pierce bond flicks. Can't put a finger on what though, just the general texture of the film.

I thought it was pretty good, especially compared to the last two bond movies which had really just gotten pretty childish imo. Deffinitely the best since goldeneye.

Maybe you should tell Iam Fleming that (well you can't because he's dead but whatever). He wrote the book, he made Bond fall in love. It's the first book, and if you think about it that love story in the first part of Bond's career is what sets up all the times where he doesn't get attached and explains a lot about the other movies.

I loved Casino Royale and also thought Daniel Craig was refreshing, I think you just have to take everything in its proper context.
