So, I think when I first started working back in the 90's (w/ my own healthcare at least) I cost the company about $100 (give or take).

Latest rounds in LESS coverage than I had in the mid 90's is approx $350!!!!

This is what Blue Cross (aka Anthem?) calls "SAVER HMO" which basically means........we save.......you get pounded in the @$$!!!!!

Annual deductibles for just about everything, etc.

Only other thing currently on the table is some GenX (Gen RX?) deal they have that is some other form of @$$ pounding that also costs lots of money.

Looking for suggestions (maybe something other than cattle-prodding Kaiser?)

TIA

I used Kaiser when I worked for an employer who didn't provide health insurance. I still use them today. I liked it and it was well priced. hope that helps

edit - lol just finished reading your OP. I still like kaiser. their not as bad as you think. for medical I was paying $180 for my age bracket (i'm 33) and they were pretty good as far as what i would expect from a provider.

saver sounds like it means you should get an HSA. maybe your company will kick in some to start the HSA with.

Ya, anymore something like an HSA doesn't sound like too bad an idea!

And, to be honest, I really don't think I'd have a problem w/ somebody like Kaiser. I *KNOW* it'll be cheaper than anything Blue Cross has to offer and I don't know who else is out there to compete. (?)

Only problem is the company owner (making the ultimate decision on this one) sounds like he's leaning toward keeping better health care (some form of Blue Cross) and making *us* the employees, pay into it somewhat.

(Thanks to the illegal alien nation and private insurance companies.........nothin' but love baby, nothin' but love)

I remember that they negotiated with them pretty heavily this time around. I think they got a good deal out of it.

Good luck with that...the CHEAPEST I can find here in Kahleeforneeya for decent coverage for my wife & I (both in our 50's) is over $800/month...with high annual deductibles and high co-pays...insurance comparable to just the medical coverage I had through my union is over $1300/month and doesn't include the dental or vision coverage we had.

10 years ago, I could get medical insurance through my insurance agent for less than $100/month that was as good as, or better than my union's medical coverage...

My how times have changed...for the worse.

Ouch! Ya, I hear ya' about the past. I'm big on nostalgia.........:D

Anywhoo......I've had a couple other recommendations......

1.) Healthnet

2.) Pacificare

Of course, like all the rest there's one great story, followed by another horror story and flippers & floppers from one insurance party to the next, but I'm a guy & care a whole lot less about who's stickin' their finger up where & more worried about getting it over with. (I think)

Of course, maybe Hillary or Obama will come up w/ universal healthcare & we can all just go get whatever we need whenever we need it just like the illegals & none of us will have to worry about any of this insurance crap anymore.

:D

let the last 5 years you work be for the Fed gov. That way you can keep insurance for the rest of your life. Fed has very strict rules for insurance. Senators/Congressmen/women get the same insurance I and all federal full time GS employees get.

<- work for the man.. or am I the man?

Man..........don't I wish. Oh, and, you'd definitely be the man if you were '1970', but '1975' only makes you half a man........:D

P.S. GET THIS.......... I had my wife check to see how much extra I'd cost added to *her* insurance at her work.

Z-E-R-O!!!!! Zip, Zilch, Nada!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???

If I can prove loss of insurance I can join midterm (July) but regardless, I could join in January & either way it's ................NUTTIN' HONEY!!!!!!!

I don't even know what to say at this point. Tell my boss to pay me $200/mo??? He wins, I win & I can start living like an illegal alien??

Well, I got an e-mail back from my boss after I explained to him how things might work. (Keep in mind..........if I can get *ME* insured, the rest of the employees can be his problem).

Here's what he had to say about the whole idea of paying for insurance......."many of our employees opt off because they can get free coverage elsewhere and do not feel it is a good thing for our company to have to pay money for something they can get for free."

Sound like if I *do* hop on the wife's insurance next year there's no compensation in it for me despite me saving him a few grand????

There may be legal reasons why he can't "pay you off" to waive your health benefits.

Or maybe they're just greedy.;)

I switch between Kaiser and Health Net. Health Net's uber expensive. My portion gets deducted from my paycheck.

Could be worse. At least you have a choice in CA. Here in Taxachusetts, it's either get health insurance or pay $200+ a month to the state in penalties for not having insurance.
