I don't get the whole pupil thing. If I click on someone's link from this thread, it just takes me to the fight screen, so I assume that it'll do the same thing for them. I don't see any option to become someone else's pupil.

Not sure. I have 1 pupil http://keithtalent.mybrute.com but I did not do anything to get one as far as I can remember. 😕

If someone clicks on your character link, and create a gladiator, they are considered your pupil.

I figured it out. If someone goes to your url, creates their character on that screen, and fights you as their first fight, then they become your pupil.

The club is the fuckin best weapon I've seen so far I got whacked for 40 (and usually hits mid 30's)....

There is an initial random chance when you create your character, and an additional random chance when you level up.
 
So it seems that the only way to gain experience is from fights that you initiate. I gained a pupil and other people initiated fights with me, but neither resulted in experience.

Some lvl 2 had a club and a shield- I didn't hit them once and I got clobbered.

Little unbalanced there.
 
Apparently the best things to get are: Bear, wolf, hammer, morningstar. If you get a character with any of those traits when you first start, they are a keeper!
