Yeah you gain 2 xp for beating someone, and 1 xp for getting beat. Joining a tournament will get you xp as well I think, but I'm not sure how that works yet. When your pupils gain a level you also get 1 xp.

I don't get the whole pupil thing. If I click on someone's link from this thread, it just takes me to the fight screen, so I assume that it'll do the same thing for them. I don't see any option to become someone else's pupil.
