Greetings all my name is Jessie, and I have been folding under the user name Kingsalami for some time. I come to you today on a somber note. I posted some things for sale in the sale/trade forum, and evidently violated the rules. Which is normally no big deal, however, I was sent a rather rude response from the mod. Which is quoted below. I find the line "While you are at it, please read ALL of these rules before you post again." the most offensive. Anyway I am going to move my user name to another folding team, if this is how Anandtech treats a user that has read their pages for 10 years then I don't need to be here anymore. I thank all of you for your technical support over the years and wish you all the best of luck.

Jessie.

Please read the rules for our For Sale/Trade forum.

You need thicker skin. I got that exact same email the first time I listed something for sale. I fixed the problem and posted my items correctly, and in fact I've sold 15 or 20 items over the last 2 years since getting that email. The rules are there for a reason, if you've been "reading our pages" for 10 years then you certainly must have had time to read the rules in the fs/ft forum before posting there.

Hi Jessie!

I recognise your folding handle as being here for longer than just "some time".
We would hate to see you leave :(

While I can have empathy with how you feel, I can also see the mod's side. He/she has to enforce the forums' rules which have been made for the protection of all members.

I hope you can see why the For Sale/Trade forum in particular needs to be monitored closely.

Might you reconsider your decision and chalk it up as a learning experience? The mod did thank you and said you could repost your offer after updating your profile and also offered help if you needed any.

"While you are at it, please read ALL of these rules before you post again."

That line is part of an entire entry that is copied and pasted every time someone posts in FS/T and doesn't have their email enabled, etc., and is a violation of the established rules. The mod in that section gets a lot of those--and very regularly--so he has a stock of standard replies ready to copy and paste. So nothing was meant personally.

If I had some extra time, I could go through and find you where my first thread there was locked, and the same reply posted in my thread before it was locked.

It is of course your decision to leave if you wish to do so, but we'd hate to see you leave, especially due to something that happened in another section...

Follow the rules and you won't get warnings. Also, mod callouts are not allowed, but since the users already pointed out that you are not special and EVERYONE gets the same warning, I'll let this slide.

If this little blurb is all it took to run you off, I wish you luck in life because there are much more formidable things in life other than some words on an internet forum.

What's a mod call out?

Hi Jessie

Sorry to hear you're leaving :(.

I will say however I don't think that replie by the mod is particularly rude & that I think you are over reacting somewhat. Still sorry to see you go though :(.

Anandtech Forum Guidelines
Baiting moderators will not be tolerated nor will Mod Call Outs. Any action that reasonably can be considered baiting a moderator, or multiple consecutive actions that heavily push the boundaries of any of these guidelines will result in an instant short term vacation. Repeated violation of this rule may result in a permaban.

Most users just fix the issue and move on. We go through sometimes hundreds of threads a day and I'm not gonna cater to each and every person who thinks they deserve special treatment. I have a list of "canned" replies and everyone gets he same warnings. It's a shame such a trivial thing could run someone off.

AFAIK, you are not allowed to complain about a mods decision in any public space(calling them out). You need to use PM's. :shrug;

The rules in the for sell/trade forum are there for a reason, mainly to keep people from getting ripped off. Everyone who uses that forum follows the same rules. All those who don't gets the same reply. 99.9 percent fixes the problem and repost their thread.
Anandtech's for sell/trade forum is one of the busiest on the web and the mods there do a great job. I've needed their help a couple of time with trades and they have helped to keep me from getting ripped off both times.
I'm glad they are there making sure everyone follows the rules. You should be also.

Incorrect. Contacting individual mods to "argue" over a decision isn't allowed either. All contact should be directed to the main Anandtech Moderator account.

I thought it was supposed to be a post in forum issues ?

OK, I am going to chime in.

I am sorry to see you leave, Jessie. You have done a lot for the TeAm. OTOH: so have others, in other projects too, and quite a few of then (of us ... ;) ) got treated the same way as you. And that is a point: all got the same reply, exactly the same wording. I do not find the reply offensive, but we are all of different sensitivity. On a day with more frustration a small thing can cause a big reaction, on a more happy day the small matter results in a embarresed :).

I got the same reply as several others. I changed the settings and reposted. No problem. I had a good day then.

I think it is important to read the forum rules now and then. They do not change often - but sometimes they do, usually for the better. It is easy to forget or to remember only a part.

Lets not make this thread som much longer, lets not discuss the rules here (there are threads for that in other forums), lets not discuss the mods actions (whether we support them or not), lets rather try to persuade hpglow - Jessie to stay on and to continue crunching.

Edit: a lot of spelling errors ... :D

You can make a thread in PFI but the preferred method for disagreement is a PM to the main mod account.

It's not rude at all. It's a freaking form letter!! As a long-time and active member of the FS/FT forums, I can say that you didn't read the rules, and that those rules are there for a reason; both for your protection and others. There's also a lot of good, experienced advice in those rules for protecting you from getting trolled too.

All that said, sorry to see you go.

I must admit that I'm surprised that somebody with 18 posts would freak out about getting treated like a n00b in fs/ft and quit the dc team over it. He's probably still in school and is under the mistaken impression that the world is "fair".

No worries hpglow.. I got one too.

I'm not a frequent visitor on the buy/sale forum, but I think the mod was just using a template for what he/she said.

Hope you reconsider..
