SB is pretty boring, unless you're running over 1.5v ram there isn't much else to do.

You could lower cpuppl but it doesn't do anything except lower temps and probably increase degradation.

You should use offset, and enable C1 and EIST, disable C3 and C6.
 
Offset voltage is better because then it will idle at a lower voltage.

Keeping it at a static voltage doesn't allow the CPU to idle down.

I'm wondering, could you explain how a lower cpupll will increase degradation by lowering temperatures? Is it due to unstable clocks?

I know where C1E report thing is, but what is EIST.

Also, does C3 and C6 only apply to sleep mode? because I never sleep the puter. :ninja:

what are you guyz's thoughts on the APU, and EPU switches, It seems like they would help overclocking, but they're also gimmicky advertised, so I'm weary.

Look at your voltages though. You set a static voltage and it doesn't budge down right? Offset voltage will be like telling the mobo to go up .15 at load and drop down to stock at idle if I remember correctly.

I've been seeing the 2550k go for $170 locally whereas Ivy is at least $230. I would take Sandy at those prices, although popping the heat spreader does look interesting for Ivy. I could see people hitting 5.5ghz now.
 
You aren't going to get a 5.0Ghz IB, you may for a SB. The optimizations between the two are less than the attainable clock delta, yes?

Duty Control


Are "VRM and the Phase" refering to the same component in the motherboard??


And Does it significantly increase the degradation of the power circuits if I use Higher profiles for these 4 settings?? :|
 
People gotta remember 4.5Ghz IB=4.7-4.8Ghz SB etc. A 5Ghz IB would smoke a 5Ghz SB.

LOL, your concept of smoked is silly. The performance difference between sandybridge and ivybridge does not warrant the cost, which is why I went with sandybridge.:biggrin:

I recognize that there IS a difference, I agree that your ivy may be faster, but a good purchase, it doesn't make.

Well they do cost the same here. But SBs (only) benefit is its easier to OC beyond 4.5.

I had my sandy bridge since yesterday, it's been doing 5ghz before I even installed windows. cranked to 1.45v at first


I'm settling for 4.8ghz though. as it only requires 1.35v :|

Where are you buying your parts, sandybridge + board is at least 50$ cheaper than ivy

You don't need to worry about those. Load Line Calibration helps avoid the Voltage dropping under load. The higher you set it, the more aggressively the motherboard will be when trying to hold the voltage.
