I understand the whole 2-3 years thing about Conan not being funny or well-received, but I've been seeing Fallon doing comedy for at least 5 years and he still fucking blows.

Show was pretty lame, but I'll continue to give it a chance. The 'Lick something for $10' skit was just retarded and unfunny. Monologue was alright. Interviews were pretty bad :x - But, like I said I'll give it a chance.

How can you people NOT like Conan.... yet you think Fallon is "Worth a shot"?

'you people' = one person in this thread :p

I'm giving Fallon a shot, I watched all his webisodes yesterday. I think he just needs time to mature a little bit and the show might turn out all right.

Err...Conan was always immature, that was his thing basically. I think Fallon is probably as mature as he's going to get. Plus he's married to a woman like 10 years older than he is...I think.

theres more then 1 on these forums that cant stand him, I am one of them, Conan is about as funny as a dead baby, Fallon is even less funny

I really liked Conan and his show, been watching it for years and years. I loved the Walker Texas Ranger bashing and the whole random pull-the-lever for a short retarded hilarious clip bit. I dig his comedy and his style. It'll def be interesting to see how things go when he takes over for Leno.

With regard to Fallon, the only funny bit he did on SNL was Weekend Update and most of that was carried by Tina Fey. Amy didn't have the same chemistry with Jimmy that Tina did; they appear to work well together. However, Fallon on his own isn't funny and further buries himself by being significantly annoying with his stupid giggling, studdering, and blank stares into the cam.

Last night's episode was downright painful to watch. I really dig the band and thought the slow news had potential, but fell short. The skit with DeNiro was funny but only because DeNiro bitchslapped Fallon. It looked as if DeNiro was very uncomfortable being the first guest and his explaination of his film festival was awful. Fallon kept interrupting DeNiro with more questions, seemed like he was sabotaging his own interview. Timberlake had some good bits and livened up the show a bit, but still wasn't enough to save the show. The whole "commemorative signed photograph" thing just made things even more awkward.

Van Morrison's performance, while musically entertaining, was annoying with his mumbling which just added to the whole trainwreck feeling of the first episode. He even had a "false start" at the beginning of the song which would make any musician facepalm. It's like the set was cursed with the retard bug or something. The performance felt last-minute, unrehearsed, not together. Blah.

There was this underlying feeling through the whole show like Fallon was this giddy little kid running around with a grin on his face going "I gots my own show everybody! I gots my own show everybody! yaaaaaayyyyy!" aspect that made it difficult not to change the channel. I did want to see the whole show, to be fair. The cheese, however, continued right up until the last scene where he runs up the steps and gives his dad a hug and the video cam followed him as if it's some sort of uncomfortable congratulatory wedding video that a drunken best man takes after most of the guests have already left. What's with the little flaps on the back wall he flipped up to reveal bright yellow "MOM" / "DAD" signs? Ugh. I REALLY hope they get this shit right and he stops acting like a childish douche. The brit isn't a funny alternative.

I agree so far I think the show sucks (and I've only watched 5 minutes of it lol) but let it ride out and let's see how it goes.

I loved him at the very beginning, but I do remember some awkward moments here and there while he was still finding his groove.

I wish I could have seen Fallon last night. I'm not a fan of his in general, but I think you can generally tell if there is something there waiting to come out.

What do I know though, I'm a big Craig Ferguson fan and probably the only one around here. :D

I just never found Jimmy Fallon funny at all.

Because he's not. I think the show is going to suck. Oh well, there's always Leno...

Leno?

"Hey guys, did ya hear about this thing? Turns out it was because of this!"

<forced laughter, mostly by Kevin>

"You see, that joke was funny because you don't typically expect those two things to be related. Hence, the humor!"

<bobble head shake>

"Wait, there's 1 guy watching with an IQ of 67 who still doesn't get it? Here let me stop the entire show and draw you a diagram; it's vastly important to me that there's absolutely zero chance than any joke go over the head of anyone over the age of 11!"

Its still hilarious compared to Letterman / Smitty (i really can't stand him)

but I guess that isn't saying much

Conan is worlds apart from both of them though

I'll have to check him out tonight if I remember, Colbert Report is on at that time though so I'll miss half of it.

I too remember Conan absolutely sucking when he started, but when he finally got good he became great. What really makes a good Host at that time slot is not so much the Hosts personality, it's all about the Skits and various Characters. That's what made Letterman and Conan great.

CR gets replayed over and over the next day on Comedy Central. Skip it and watch the episode later.

Don't watch it on Comedy Central. ;) It's CTV up here in the Great White North. Midnight-Daily Show, 12:30-Colbert Report.

I disagree. What makes a great host is their ability to converse with guests, audience members, and people on the street and come up with stuff on the spot. Letterman is the king of interviewing, and Conan isn't half bad, either.

Just my opinion.

They certainly need some skills that way, but it was the Skits that made Letterman and Conan. The skits put people in the Seats, as it were. That's what people talk about around the water-cooler.

With months of preparation, the skit they came up with was to lick random things for ten bucks?

The product placement was disgusting. That's another thing I forgot to include in my review. There was so much advertising and product placement it was disgusting.

I watched Conan for those first years because he used that to his advantage. He made self deprecation an art form.

Fallon is just not funny outside of Celebrity Jeopardy.

YES - I absolutely hated the product placements they did yesterday, especially with van morrison's CD:

"Get Van Morrison album at walmart and amazon.com"...no sh!t Jimmy...did you think I would try to find it at Safeway!?!?

Those product placements are a serious turn-off to the show.

After reading through this thread today, I thought the show would be a trainwreck. Just watched it on the DVR, and it really wasn't that bad. Sure, it had it's growing pains, but that's to be expected. You can tell he's never done this before, so I think any weirdness is justified.

I really feel sorry for you guys who are so instantly judgmental. Must suck to live in your bubble.

Ya, I didn't think it was too terrible. I'm with preitusONE on this one. Although I must say, Justin Timberlake made the show. Falon should get more younger stars to come on. He seemed very comfortable with Justin Timberlake. Heck.. I think Justin Timberlake would've made a great host hahaha.

I thought it was bad. Robert DeNiro interview was downright horrible. Jimmy Fallon talks way too fast and I'm sure some people would have a hard time understanding him. His interviewing skills suck. He's ganna need a couple years of polishing to be good.

How do you get to host a show like this? Do you start in the copy room at NBC and hope that enough people notice your (hypothetically) awesome personality, and move up from there?

He switched to a 3 min monologue. And it was still bad. He sounds like he is hyperventilating when he talks.
