If N is an integer between 2 and 100 and if N is also the square of an integer, what is the value of N?

1) n is even
2) The cube root of N is an integer

A) Statement (1) alone is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient
B) Statement (2) alone is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient
C) Both statements together are sufficient, but neither statement alone is sufficient
D) Each statement alone is sufficient
E) Statements (1) and (2) together are not sufficient

The answer is B, but I want to know why.

OKay, so think about it... N can only be 9,16,25,36,49,64,81;

Knowing that N is even doesn't help you out; knowing that the cube root if N means you can deduce that the answer is 64. You can solve it by only knowing Statement 2; Statement 1 is useless.

yup.

a) N is also the squared of an integer = 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81

b) N is even = 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc.
c) the cube root of n is an integer N = 8, 27, 64

which one (b or c) would pair best w/ a and give ONE single common #? only c can.
