late night bike ride - pics inside!

Been going for some late night bike rides around Montreal lately, what with all the nice weather we've been having. This time my buddy brought his camera along.

Beware slow connections, post is full of 4 to 8MB+ sized pics.

For some perspective, a couple shots from my cell phone:










I thought they were alright for low-light cell phone pics. Total garbage compared to an actual camera though. Fair warning, could take a bit to load! These were taken around the Lachine Canal and east of that, towards but not quite at the old port of Montreal. Hope you enjoy.

I've played with most of the settings in the phone, and most of them honestly don't make a huge difference. I assume my friend knows how to use his actual camera. I dunno. They look half decent, no?

Did the large pics break something? 😀

They look alright but it's very difficult to view a full res pic in a browser window. You need to shrink them, offer links to download the full res version if you must.

Use the scaler!

Especially with phone quality pics at night, where there's maybe one pixel in 20 that actually has relevant information.

Edit: WTF 12 mpx cell phone pix, and 15 mpx pics posted directly on the web!

Kind sir: None of us has a 15mpx screen.
I think the biggest AT-forums screen I've seen was 4800x2560. RESCALE that shit!

I'll join the people asking you not to post such giant pics though. Even on fairly fast LTE, it took a while for my phone to get them.

Shrink the motherfucking pictures before you post them on the internet next. Nobody's gonna make 10" x 8" prints of your night adventure.

MS paint works, too.

If you upload to a picture sharing site, you can download scaled down versions for usage online, too.

The shots look nice. I'm too glued to the computer to go out at night. That, and bugs. I don't like getting bit.

good pictures. what camera was your friend using? HDR editing to make some of the pictures or did they get it that good straight from the camera?

Okay, I fixed up the sizes for you guys a bit. The embedded pics should no longer be greater than 1600x res, and if you click on the pic itself you should be linked to the original sized image in a new tab or window.

vso image resizer does the trick, you can massively resize images with a right click.

I just figured the browser automatically resizes the pic once it finishes downloading. Guess I overlooked that some people dont have fast connections or much bandwidth to waste. My apologies for that.

The camera I believe is a canon 60d but im not too sure which lenses he was using. Looking at the difference between cell phone pic and 60d is impressive.

Makes me want a real camera... dammit
