so I'm moving into a smaller place to save some money and hopefully buy a place next year. It's small place with an ok size master bedroom. My old place I had room for a bed and couch and I like working on my laptop on the couch. It's no longer a spatial option so I've been looking at futons. I had one when I was 19-23 but I'm thinking at a certain age you've out grown it. I don't remember what it was like to sleep on one though.

Just get a fake ID, or use a younger brother's if you have one. The smaller places won't card you anyway.

I love futons, and I'd use one now if it wouldn't look silly with my bedroom set. I prefer them on the floor, and no frame. I also like the fabric stuffed, as opposed to foam stuffed. Go for it.

I'm somewhat confused. This is a 1BR apartment and you want to know if you can have a futon in BR instead of a bed?

Futons come in all styles and sizes and various ranges of quality these days.

There are probably some out there that would even be considered "real furniture." No reason to age discriminate on such a thing.

we actually have this one as our main couch:

it was cheap...and doesn't look like a futon. Comfortable at first, but it is obviously cheap--mostly spring, not firm at all (for sitting), but it does sleep pretty well

it's a 2 master bedroom condo. The other person is the main owner so I don't like to sit on their couch hours on end in front of the tv doing my work. For some reason my back isn't comfy sitting up on a bed watching TV and working on my laptop but I can do work on my laptop 8+ hrs a day on the couch. So I'd need a couch in my master bedroom. I actually slept on a futon the last 2 years of college and never converted it into a bed unless a girl was coming over. I actually prefer sleeping on a couch lol but it just looks ridiculous past a certain age.

thanks man looks like what I want but I had one that was a metal frame and when converted it actually looked like a very real bed. But that being a california shop really helps me out.

Eh, in that situation I think it's fine. As long as you don't mind sleeping on a futon. Though, if you do bring a girl back it might be a bit odd. :p

yeah, we like it, but it certainly isn't "real furniture"

if you will use this daily--sitting and sleeping--It will probably only give you 4-6 years of good use.

That's just my guess, of course. I have another futon stashed away that has a nice innerspring mattress. very good for sleeping--but again, shitty for daily use and generally bad for sitting.

at 29, I couldn't imagine bringing a guy home to have sex on my futon. but that would be my only concern.

You can't work on your laptop from your bed? I do it all the time. If you have a headboard, sitting up isn't an issue. If you buy a mattress, you'll be able to use it in your future home.

And women aren't going to be too impressed with a futon. But maybe you're gay and other guys don't mind.

Nevermind, they do.

I don't see why. If I were single I'd only have one of those foam camping mats after they got done with me.

The life of Holden Caulfield has always been so full of tremendous age-related dilemmas.

Futons are fine for any age, but just be sure to get one that's comfortable, not the ones which you can feel the wood once you sit on them.
