Last year for Coney Island?

Have you been to Coney Island? It's a dump. They are going to put in a modern amusement park and modern condos. This is a good thing.

Well that's just the problem. They need to put money in the right places to fix up the boardwalks and clean it up. If they nix the amusement park that is going to be very sad. "Times Square Beach" doesn't sound bad but bringing in the excavators, leveling the place and putting hi rises up is rather disgusting.

Have you been there lately? It's like a hipster paradise now. The girls are hot but, no, not only trashy people go there. Over educated, under motivated rich white kids go there now!

I'm not sure if that's better or worse.

I've often wondered about the politics of why Coney Island wasn't leveled years and years ago. It's incredibly awful. In such a beautiful shoreline. Modern condos would be great. And a real amusement park? Cool!

Don't hold your breath.

Well I'm glad that I went for my first time this past July...even if it was raining and nasty out, it was still cool to check it out with friends. That, and Nathan's hot dogs. 😛

Does NYC need more expensive condos? They should totally renovate Coney Island. New rides, renovated boardwalk, a place for shows/music, small businesses...etc. Great shoreline but a new Coney Island should be made not more condos for the rich.

The cyclone and the wonder wheel are landmarks, so they cannot destroy them. I think the beach front can't change that much if they have to leave these rides in place. Plus, the developer building something in such an emotionally sensitive area without having the community's support would build A LOT of negative publicity. I am sure they eventually will find a compromise.

I love Coney Island.

Your logic, Mr Spock, is irrefutable as everyone knows that the only way to combat rising home prices attributable to an excess demand for an already insufficient supply is to prevent an increase in the supply.

Brilliant.

Sorry to say, but community support doesn't really matter in NYC. Have you heard of the Atlantic Yards? Last I heard they are still putting up that new arena in "downtown" Brooklyn even though no one (except the rich) want it.

I also love Coney Island (Brooklyn Cyclones baby!!).

I live in NYC and community support did change a lot in many real estate developments in the last decade. Many development in Harlem failed in the last 2-3 years because the developed faced such an extreme form of bad publicity they chose to simply move their projects to another place. In other occasions they bargained with the community for things like access to services inside the developed area (such as in the Columbia University Extension case) or the community was consulted about the esthetics of planned buildings.

like what happened with crystal beach amusement park, it became doll houses for the americans.

i'm sorry, do i sound bitter towards niagara?

coney island is 15 mins walk from my house and I was there a few days ago. it is absolutely a shithole. they need to take it down and build something else better with it.

to almost nothing, you see, eh-heh and I still remember, in my mind how things used to be
and-ah you know I feel very bad but people from all over the world came here.
There was a playground they called the playground of the world, over here anyways,
so but I-ah you know I even got, when I was very small I even got lost in Coney Island but they found me...
on the beach... and we used to sleep on the beach here sleep over night....
they don't do it anymore...things changed. They dont sleep anymore on the beach...
