I lost a long time member of my family: my Sanyo microwave oven.

It has traveled with me from place to place and as dependable as the sun coming up up every morning. It was the first microwave ever I bought and I am sad.

I bought it back in 1993 - a 1.3 cu.ft 900watt unit.

You will be missed.

I replaced it on Friday with a 30L (1.1 cu.ft 1000 watt) Westinghouse unit I bought on clearance at Walmart for $99 CDN. So far so good.

i still miss the one i grew up with in the 80s

no others have felt quite the same

a rotary timer, a physical ding instead of a beep... it was great

Mine was bought in 1985 and it's both a microwave and a convection oven. Panasonic. Still works fine. Use it every day.

You could give it a tiny wave goodbye.

A micro-wave, if you will...

I don't know how old mine it. It's a Monkey Wards model with resistive(?) buttons. Early 90s? It's perfect for my purposes. Small and low power. Everything goes in on high, and only the timing varies. I don't really do any "real" cooking with it, but it's convenient for heating stuff up.

My current one is 18, the turntable motor acts up when the seasons change, but so far (the last 2-3 years) it's settled down after a few weeks. It does look to be a fairly standard part so I may get around to replacing it. I've also replaced the mica waveguide cover because it flared up a bit with a bit of food that was stuck to it.

Ooof its tough to lose any of those old dependable appliances or electronics (looking at you HP printers from the late 90s). I have an alarm clock I've had since I was a teenager and I think I might need a day or two off of work to recover from my loss when it dies
