"We are never going to find them in my view, just as I never believed the inspectors would by running around and seeing if they can open a door," he said.

I watched today's Pentagon briefing and that's a misquote and taken out of context.

That was taken out of context. What he said was that we would not find WMD by looking for WMD, but the would find people who could tell us where to find WMD, or people who could tell us where to find documentation concerning WMD, or people who could tell us where to find people who could tell us where to find WMD, etc.
"Freedom's untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things," Rumsfeld said.
True enough. I can go rob a bank and prove it to you if you like.

Not a very wise decision, you will do federal time. You are better of hitting a grocery store, some easily hit a half mill on a busy weekend. Good luck, if you make it back check out my FS thread...;)

Rumsfeld deserves to be arrogant. He was right about Iraq despite the beating the press tried to put on him.

I still think old Don is a seriously smart mofo. I wouldn't want to be in his crosshairs.

There is nothing quite so 'dangerous' as one so modest as to have no ego at all. :D

Rumsfield is not a good politician or public speaker, he sometimes slips and tells the truth. Remember "old europe" thing? Hah.

Yes you are quite free to rob a bank but it is also quite wrong and against the law. Freedom is not doing whatever you like which Rummy seems to have forgotten. What Rummy is describing isnt freedom, its anarchy. In fact, I'm quite sure you are not free to commit crimes and do bad things, thats why we have laws to prevent those kind of things!

Look up. See that fast moving object flying over your head?

That would be the point.

You are free to "rob a bank" or any other activity you choose to commit. The point is that there are penalities for those actions if you are caught.

Right now there are no civil penalties in Iraq because the old regime is gone and a new civil order has not been installed. After being under such a repressive regime for so many years some of the people have not learned the sense of self-control that comes from a different form of society. It will take time but order will be restored.

I think Rumsfeld is a great speaker - he handles the media well. Who cares if he tells the truth? Isn't that what it's all about?

When your pet project goes wonk and people notice and start to call you on it, you can get a bit testy. Nobody likes to be publicly exposed to ridicule for screwing up. It makes for tantrum time.

I don't see anything over my head, must of missed its target. Do you see anything over your head?
