I enjoy anchovies. When I made pizza at a mom and pop italian place (the owners were actually ALBS) I occasionally snuck an anchovy or two, so salty cured fish is not unknown to me. I've never actually known someone that ate sardines by choice. Please school me ATOT.

Saltine, sardine, and hotsauce is all a man needs to eat.

They had a nice big glass container of herring in a wine sauce at costco. Those were DAMN good, MUUUCH better than the canned bullshit, but the canned bullshit is hard to beat for health per dollar also. Healthy omega 3 fats (a good omega 3 - 6 ratio unlike a lot of other foods) , really cheap... win. bum food? I tend to agree, I ate a lot of herring and sardines when I was at my poorest. But it is damn good stuff. a lot cheaper than a lot of crappy ass food.

Just in case anyone doesnt know: There is no such thing as a sardine fish.
Sardines are ANY little fish they soak in smelly shit and then slap inside a tin can.

If it had an apple logo on it, they would not have gone out of business.

Hmm I already saw this movie

Cloudy_with_a_chance_of_meatballs_011.jpg

I thought it was an excellent movie, I LOL'd more in Meatballs than Up (although thought Up was a slightly better movie overall). The art style and graphics in Meatballs are awesome. It's a travesty that the movie only got 66% on Metacritic.

do they taste like fish?

if so, I will never try one. I have gone this long avoiding ever trying the little things because the taste of fish disgusts me.

To date, the only fish I can stand: tuna, which condiments added to make it not take so much like tuna. Not even a fan of tuna much anyhow.

And mahi-mahi, and I only have had it served blackened. The blackened aspect was the only flavor, no fish taste whatsoever. So if I see blackened mahi-mahi on a menu, I might get it.

No other fish has been met with anything other than a "must get this out of my mouth" reflex reaction.

How does one eat Sardines?
I can't say I remember ever even eating one.. Not that I refuse to try them or anything.. I guess they're not popular in my neck of the woods.

I hate fish too.
The only seafood I can stomach is popcorn shrimp with breading and lots of cocktail sauce.

I used to have the occasional can. Only the boneless, skinless kind.
Haven't had a sardine for like 15 years, though.
Too bad about the workers losing their jobs. Better fisheries management is needed.

For starters, how about some fried calamari. Or fish tacos. If you like chinese maybe they can help cure you of your fish phobia with some of the deep fried dishes.

'And then everybody realized that sardines....are super gross.'

Loved that movie. One of my faves.

because of this news i went to walmart and purchased canned sardines. they were out of the ones packed in hot sauce, and i bet they don't get restocked.

i did look at the brands other than beach cliff (which is the one that is closing). they were from morocco and poland (odd that chrome insists poland be capitalized but leaves morocco alone). not china, thailand, or vietnam.

the ones in mustard sauce are not particularly good, even when drowned in hot sauce. and eating them with pale ale was not a good idea either. need a high life or a busch light or something.

i think i'll try the ones in water as a sardine salad sandwich.

You mean those particular brands in mustard sauce weren't that good, or you didn't much care generally for the ones in mustard sauce? Because I like the sardines in mustard sauce, though I've had some brands that weren't as good as others.

Whole. Ketchup or hot sauce is a nice touch.

Also agree there is no "sardine" fish. It's what you call "baitfish".
