Halogens are great bulbs, but AFAIK they tend to burn hot. In a dorm, that's not a good thing.

'Specially when you're the RA. ;) Burning down your dorm is a bad thing.

Halogen lighting or incandescent?

Grrr, okay, so there's a torchiere (incandescent) for $20 at Wal-Mart, but I'd also like to get a regular floor lamp while I'm at it, and Wal-Mart doesn't have one of those online, as far as I know.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

This guy doesn't look too bad - I'm thinking it takes an incandescent bulb, but I don't know for sure.

Any ideas?

*sigh* One last, final question... if I get a 100 watt bulb, will it work in a light designed for 150 watt bulbs?

Also, wtf can I find a regular, incandescent, 150 watt bulb?

You can always use a lower wattage. Not sure where to get 150W bulbs. Also your link above is screwy.

halogens, i'd imagine, considering they're the only ones that have that high wattage.

geez... this thread is 4 days old! what do you do when the sun goes down, read by candlelight? or by blue-green monitor glow? just buy a freakin lamp already! :)

It a friggen lamp, for crying out loud!!!!! Buy it, assemble it and screw in a friggen light bulb. Use a flourecent, incadecent or a halogen bulb. If you don't like one, use another one!

~Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. I feel better now~

I assume it's a combination of both...

I've got this IKEA lamp, it retails for $9.99 in the US but it's not available on their US website. There ought to be an IKEA store in the Seattle area.... or you can find somebody who has a catalog. They also sell really cheap standard-socket flourescent bulbs, so my lamp total costs like $12.50 with a 12-watt flourescent bulb and the lamp itself :) Plus it saves energy and doesn't warm up the room like normal bulbs (and halogens really make the place warmer.... you can feel it when you stand too close to them).

I really like the way it looks, esp. the way that the top 'bowl' part curves down... The only problem is that the cord hangs off from close to the top (it only passes thru the topmost vertical support piece) so you've got this ugly black cord hanging down... but hey, for $10 you really can't complain, and I guess if you were really good with that kind of stuff you could route it through the tube somehow.

Mwahahahaha...

I was about to say the same thing myself, actually, just in the spirit of kicking my own ass over it.
