i bought 2 for $8.00 a piece from walmart. really light up the room but this other one i have uses a halogen bulb and its alot brighter. just can't find another one like it for cheap.

i don't think they even sell halogens any more...i've been looking for awhile. fire hazard maybe. if anyone knows where to get one let me know
that might be true... the one i have has this grill over the top. invisible to people from below but it protects the bulb

I haven't looked in a long time, but I thought you could still get halogen ones. They usually have that grill dabuddha mentions and they also have some sort of automatic shutoff if it overheats.
BTW, this specific type of floor lamps is called a "Torchiere."

Uses an incandescent bulb of up to 100 watts
Incandescent => not flourescent or halogen.

Hmm that's pretty neat. We could really use something like that, because the flourescent-bulb torchiere we have now doesn't give off good enough directional light to really read anything in our living room. If that used a flourescent bulb up top instead of incandescent, it'd be perfect. Anyone know if one like that exists?
