Last night I dropped a WD80 hard drive on the floor and dinged my Antec case!

I got the hard drive from CompUSA's 21st Birthday Sale. And I bought an external Adaptec USB 2.0 HD case for it. I had already assembled the drive into the case but it didn't seem to work (turned out the usb cable wasn't making a connection with the front usb port on my computer case -- it works fine from another usb port on the back) so I was dissassembling it to check if I set the hard drive jumpers correctly.

So, I was holding the case in one hand and removing the two screws on the back. All of a sudden, the drive slides out of the case, falls about 2 to 3 feet onto the floor and hits the side of my Antec case. I was so pissed off at my stupidity. I forgot the screws were keeping the drive from sliding out.

Luckily, it seems the drive is okay but I'm kind of pissed that my Antec case has a ding in it.

HOLY FCKING CRAP!!

A StormRider thread that doesn't involve some fantasy chick or other sexual innuendo?!?!?

which antec have you got? i'd be pissed too. 🙂

(are those external drive cases are quite speedy?)

Considering that I think people get way to worked up over dings on there cars....dings on their computer cases don't exactly seem like anything worth getting worked over at all.

Be happy the drive works, my wife dropped my quantum 20gig about 7-8ft once and that puppy is still purring away.

The Antec case was a bronze 2600 SLK. I also have a Sonata and a Lanboy.

The external Adaptec USB 2.0 HD case is quite nice. No noisy fans (the aluminum case is supposed to act as a heat sink) and seems really solid. I haven't tested how fast it is but WinXP recognized it without any problems. I didn't recognize the chipset used (it was very tiny though) and is supposed to handle 1000 GB drives. I got it for only $24.99 because of the 50% off Adaptec products sale.

StormRider, will you please PM me, it has to do with a previous post:
keywords, mom, car, sinus surgery. Thanks in advance.

I read your post three times, looking for you to blame all his woes on straight, white, male conservatives.. I think this is a first for you.

So... you identified the problem as being a faulty USB connection on the computer... but opened up the drive enclosure to solve it??? And you weren't working on a hard drive on a flat low surface, or a desk top!?

You deserve that ding. So now every time you look upon that ding you will remember how poor your troubleshooting skills are.
