A lot of this is probably personal preference, but oh well. When studying at the last minute (cramming), what is your most effective way of studying?

I usually just give up at this point.

Something you might try that sometimes works for me...

It is possible to associate certain smells and tastes with different subject matter. So, if you're studying for seperate exams or different material for the same class you may try eating different kinds of candy while you study. Then during the exams eating the respective candies for the subject you're testing on.

Library, classmates, bouncing info off each other (in a private study room so as not to disturb others). When library closes, someone's house. No TV, no distractions.

sounds like a good plan, but I think I've tried that one before and it didn't work too well. Any others?

Studying through osmosis works pretty well. Just open up the book stick your head on it, and in the morning, you'll be well prepared!

They have done studies to show that peopel remember things that they do right before goign to sleep better than they remember things done during the day.

So cram at night and then go to bed and you might remember it better.

And/or make cheat sheets. The act of writing down the facts also will help you remember. I can't count the times I wrote out a cheat sheet and then didn't need it because I then knew the informatino from writing it down.

I was the king of last minute work @ college.

Finished my senior project the night before.

Term papers were usually finished within an hour of class.

Tests were studied for at the last minute.

Funny part is, all projects/papers were graded very highly. I just suck at test taking in general so even when I shaped up my habits and started studying a week earlier I still got my ass handed to me.

Yeah, forget it and get some sleep. You'll do better than you would by cramming.

Next time, learn it as you go.

last minute? my technique was to drink a moderate amount of gin (maybe 3-4 shots) and attempt to latch on to approx 2/3 of the key concepts. Fairly effective in HS and college. A more extreme technique (if you have a morning class) is to consume approx 15 cups of coffee or do a couple lines of coke and pull an all nighter + the next morning. Coming down after that much caffiene is a bit traumatizing though.

buy a coffeemaker and work from there (much cheaper than hitting up dunkin donuts each time)

Make sure you filter your material heavily. I don't care if the syllabus says read 200 pages by Thursday; you can cut that down to less than half by highlighting the key words and main concepts.

And look at practice tests to see the instructors style of testing. You can get a read for what kind of info you should look for and commit to memory.
