Hey folks.
I am in bit of a rush here to post as well as buy and build my next desktop computer.
I am about to board a 12 hour flight so I apologize if this is rushed. My hope is that by the time I land, I can have suggestions for what i need.

In a nutshell, my company has given me a good 'check' to build out a new home PC for work. (awesome right?)
Now, the primary function for this build will be mostly for development type work. That said, I plan to run Windows 10 as the Base OS, but run a Debian VM as my primary 'development' workstation when working.
Secondary function is some casual gaming with my kids (more city building, strategy type games).

With that out of the way, here is what I am looking for.
Good CPU. Does not have to be top of the line, but powerful enough to run Windows 10 as base OS, one Linux Debian VM. inside my Debian VM i do a lot of work with containers, so memory will be much needed.) ...AMD or Intel...i am find.
Memory, 64gb is what I will populate the board with.
Storage. SSD or m2. Does not matter. 1-2tb should be plenty.
I have a GPU, so I am good there. AMD R9 Fury.
PSU is good. 750 Corsair.
I'll keep existing case.
Monitors are good.

That is pretty much it. Normally i would do the research, but since I will be flying for almost 12 hours, then by the time I land, need to order, I will not be able to do so (flying over the Atlantic...so no wifi :( )

I know its last minute and unexpected. Apologize for the sense of urgency.
Hoping for some awesome suggestions from the folks here.

Thx folks!

TCG

Well, I am not sure how much the budget is, but I will try a stab at this. Also, too bad you can't wait a month for TR3.

CPU AMD Ryzen 2970wx 24 core
Motherboard X399 ASRock Taichi
CPU Cooler NH-U14S
memory 2 of these F4-3600C16D-32GVKC for 64 gig total
M.2 SSD NVME Corsair CSSD-F2000GBMP600

PSU may not be good, you need 1 8 pin and one 4 pin CPU power connector, and many older PSU's only have ONE. Corsair HX-850 is a good one, but there are many more, go for Platinum or Titanium rated PSU's for solid current and efficiency.

Its $2,261 at newegg, but I think you can get the 2970wx for $100 less (from what I saw on pcpartpicker)

This system should be killer and handle anything you can throw at it.

Just so you are sure of what I have recommended. Its 24 cores and 48 threads. It should be killer and have plenty of power for a VM and windows, and its quad channel memory, and just about the fastest native NVME drive you can buy. NO other hard drives required per your spec.(its 2 terrabytes)

That motherboard also has an 8 and a 4 pin for the CPU, and his older 750 may not have that. And some say you don't need both, but there is at least one thread here that verified it would not even power on without both,.

Oh, and that NVMRE is gen 3 (PCIE 3.0) while the motherboard is PCIE 4.0. He may lose a lot of speed. Also he said 1-2 tb, so that 1 TB may not be enough.

I know, it's hard to make suggestions when we really don't have a budget to work with lol.

I just figured work is paying for it, so the budget is probably large, and with 2 OS'es I though maybe TR was the way to go, lots of threads for both. And 3600 memory, and NVME v4.0, so if the budget is OK, its a screaming system. But either way, he most likely needs a new PSU.

Edit: speaking of memory, my favorite just came back in stock at newegg:

$285 for 64 gig, 3600 cl 16 !

Hey Folks,

First, flight was cancelled (after couple hours on the tarmac..... :/).
Thanks for everyone chiming in. I really appreciate it a lot. I spent some time reading last night, putting stuff together. Still doing so.
That said, my boss gave me an extension to Tuesday. Which i am good with and less 'on a whim' purchasing.

Yea, work is paying for it. Figure the budget is $2,000ish, give or take.
As everyone posted, powerful system for multi tasking/apps running, quiet, cool and would prefer low power consumption.
Speaking of, I could probably use a new case as well. Something nice (no neon stuff...ahahah). Solid, cool, sound dampening.

I'll be back after some more coffee....heheh
Cheers!

BTW, 2 things. One, I found the CPU for $100 less elsewhere, but it was just easy to display and total it here. Also, I went the full 2 TB on the NVME, but if budget is a problem, you could go 1 TB on the NVME, and find a slower and less expensive SSD for storage, and then a really cheap spinner for more storage.
