Last day of normalcy?

The last day of normalcy for me was the day before my first child was born.

9/10 however is definately up there. We went to Yankee Stadium to see Roger Clemens pitch for his possible record-breaking winning game, but it rained, so we hung out at the wet stadium until they finally called the game. It was a lot of fun. The next day, wham.

<< normalcy was never a word. One of the presidents (i don't remember which one it was) used it in a speech. >>

What president? When?

EDIT: Warren Harding?

Perhaps it was that dumb president George W. Bush. You know, the one who cannot for the life of him learn to speak in public.

OK, but you do realize that there are a lot of words in the English language that have bizarre etymologies or origins, don't you? English is not like classical Latin.

<< Bush also used normalcy in his speech at the World Series. >>

The word is in every modern English dictionary, so I don't quite understand what the problem is.

<< "Normalcy" isn't a word, technically. >>

It's in the English dictionary. Like Vespasian pointed out, what does it matter how the word came into use. It's still part of the language and a valid "word." 😕

I never said that there was a problem, I was simply pointing out that both presidents gave speeches about a "Return to Normalcy." Sheesh.

Well I think you could say that September 11 was the *first* day of normalcy because the feelings are fears we have from that day will become the norm...

What is normal? Sept. 11 was a hard day but it is not the end of the world. We are rebuilding and will remain strong. I don't think, even though the event has deeply affected me, that I am going to let it change my life any more than it has to. I will be more aware of outside cultures (I do that already being married inter-racially), but other than that I am not going to give up my redneck gun-toting free voting loud mouth American rights anytime soon 😀
