CPA, can you answer my question from above?

They peel back part of your eye? What if you rub your eyes after the surgery? How long until it "heals"?

It's been a total disaster for me. My left eye now has so much astigmatism that it cannot be corrected with glasses or contacts. I regret it every day of my life.

Things like this make me wary of doing it.

And as for rubbing your eye, I think it heals in one or two days?? Just don't rub your eye if you care about your vision for the rest of your life.

It takes about 3 MONTHS for the flap to heal entirely. it is IMPERATIVE that you do not rub ur eyes during that period of time.

the worst story is about an individual who TORE THE FLAPS off during his sleep. If you have the type of personality that has to scratch the itch NO MATTER WHAT, then this surgery probably isn't for you.

this is what scares me. No way in fvcking hell could I go 3 months without rubbing my eyes. Especially when I wake up in the morning.

The doctor's strongly warn of rubbing eyes during the first week. You are given goggles to wear during the night so you do not rub them during your sleep. You are also given three types of eye drops: anit-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and "near tear" type drops. You also get tear duct plugs placed that will make your eyes continually wet.

As for problems, I sympathize, but most any surgery has it's cases of problems. Even vaccinations can kill.

You don't really see anything. You look at a red dot and that's about it. Plus your eyelids are taped open along with a lid seperator placed underneath them. It's laser surgery, not scalpel surgery.

Supposed to be one of the best in the nation, one of the pioneers. Three years ago it cost me $2000 per eye. But no doctor can predict how any one person's eye(s) will heal. Go do a google search of "lasik disasters" or similar, and read what a mess it can cause.

I felt the same way. i never thought i'd be able to get thru those first 3 months. it was tough, but i got thru it and now i'm happier for it. :)

also, if you astigmatism, go back to a reputable doctor. they should be able to help you.

too be honest tho, if your left eye has that much problems then the doctor mis diagnosed you. he probably shouldn't have done the surgery in the first place.

If your looking for a doctor, the MOST important part of the procedure, isn't the surgery itself, it's the prep. it's the calculations the doctor makes BEFORE doing the surgery. the surgery itself is pretty automated and most doctors will do a decent job at the cutting, if mistakes are made, 70 percent of the time, the mistakes will have been made in the PREP.

deciding how much, how deep, where, etc etc etc, all that stuff has to be decided BEFORE you go under the knife.

Are you sure the procedure you had done was LASIK. some of the procedures done before lasik were not as predictable, but Lasik is pretty predictable. I still think that if your left eye has THAT much astigmatism in it, it isn't because of how it healed, but because of how you were cut.

also, the current crop of lasers do a MUCH better job of cutting evenly than the earlier models did.

Cost wise, i have seen prices from $500 per eye to $2500 per eye. I would have to finance the surgery either way. What are average costs?

To all those prepared to flame me for not asking a doctor, i am doing back next thursday for a checkup.

I still see a lot of Optometrists who wear glasses. Since they can probably get it for free (or close to it) from the best, I would probably not do it, if I had the opportunity.

Ok you say 1st week, Platinum says 3 months. Was this two different procedures? How can it be such a big difference?

My brother who is the docter that did the surgery on me, is VERY conservative, BUT if his patience follow his advice regarding 3 months, they end up with MUCH better results.

theoretically your eyes are healed after 1 week, but there can still be shifting with the flap. Why not play it safe, it's your EYES for pete's sake.

well i do have one little problem but it wasn't caused by lasik. I've always had a problem with dry eyes, which kept me from wearing contacts. but when my eyes aren't dry i have 20/20 vision. i couldn't ask for a better result.

I have dry eyes also which prevent me from wearing contacts. My eye doctor told me that Lasik will make my eyes even more dry. Did this happen to you? Do you have to use rewetting drops a lot or something? This is the only thing holding me back from getting this surgery.

Not more dry, i have 95 % of my vision most of the time.

You can have plugs put in on the little ducts in ur eyes that allow the tears to drain. this will help with dry eye problem. talk to your doctor. if you live in the LA area, i can seriously recomend the doctor that did my eyes, he's meticulous and very good.

pm me if you want his info.

look into ortho-k
i dont wanna get long winded but my brother, who is 21 now was lookin into lasik last summer.... he can't wear contacts because they all irritate him.... my parent's are both gov't employees so we gotta a discount, it was like $1,000/eye or something.. he went in for evaluation, they said he was a perfect candidate and wanted to set a day for him to come in for the surgery.. my dad was against it the whole time.. and just urged him to speak with various eye doctors.. he went to a few, including other lasik doctors and most of them suggested against lasik just because long term effects are not known yet and its still not perfected.... we even noticed some lasik doctors wearing glasses, and we asked them why? they were like, "no laser surgery for me".... in the end he's glad he didnt get them and is now looking at ortho-k.... either way, good luck with it...

I wondered why so many optometrists wore glasses, too, so I asked one of mine. He said he didn't wear them because he needed them, but to make his patients feel more comfortable. Don't know how many do this, but I don't think I would take it as an indication of the quality of LASIK surgery; hell contacts are really common and harmless, but they don't wear those either.

Soon as I can get the money/financing, I'll be getting LASIK surgery. Nothing worse than sweating and having it drip all over your glasses. And it hurts my eyes to wear onctacts for a long period of time while using the computer, so I don't put them in cause I'm on the computer for a few hours every day.

Although, they have this new implantable contact lense. They peel back your cornea and stick a contact lense under there then put the cornea flap back. Its upgradable.

You don't see anything because they push this ring down around your cornea to make it pucker out and to hold your eye still. When they do that, you lose vision in that eye. So, you're blinded while the procedure is being done. Takes less than a minute per eye once that part is done.

These folks advertise in an area newspaper. Lasic md $780 bucks, for both eyes. Wish I knew someone who has been there. The price seems too good. Anyway, the faq has some info about the procedure.

I have -7.50 in both eyes. I am too scared to have the surgery. Maybe 10 years from now. Contacts work for right now.

is it overclockable too? :D

seriously, my vision is extremely bad, but I dont know what the ?/? ratio is. My number for glasses and contacts is at 8.5 for each eye, which makes for some pretty thickass glasses. Even when I got the slimmed down versions of glasses, they are still thick as hell. With eyesight this bad, I dont know if Im eligible for LASIK. Also, dont you have to be a certain/recommended age to get the procedure done? Im gonna be 21 in november, and the money isnt a problem. Got plenty of funds if I dip into my car funds.

Damn! I think I'm at 1.5, so I can navigate just fine in the world, I just can't see the blackboard or signs, etc.. which is why I wear contacts.
