Looking to buy a printer. ANyone have any experiences with this one? Personal recommendations for a laser or inkjet. I am thinking of going laser due to the low price per page printing.

Well, I'm glad I got in here before Lemon Law starts laying down "The Law".
A laser like the HP 1020 can average about 1 cent per page, assuming you dont pay full retail for the cartidge. Dig around online and you can find them cheap.

Also of note: HP's ship with full cartidges, so you dont have to worry about runnning out immediately. Thats something to consider when looking at other brands.

As far as quality goes, I still believe that HP makes the best lasers. Dont know too much about the 1020, but if its even close to the same as the other low-end series then you have a good printer there.
I have been using the 1000 for many years and I love it. Quiet. Fast. Cheap. And excellent quality. It seems that a laser with 600 dpi gets much better prints than an inkjet at 2400 or 4800 dpi.

I have a 1012...snagged it on a great deal from office depot (under $90 shipped). It's basically the same thing as the 1020, afaik. I've had it for over a year. In a 5 member household, it's still on the original toner. Very quiet, quick printer for the money. Have had no problems with it.

We did the math on this once in our office.
Assuming you dont use super low quality crap, it can average between 10 and 20 cents a sheet. The Lexmarks are actually closer to 30 cents. We had millions of those things when I was in the Navy.
NMCI is a bunch of overpriced whores.

We have a couple of the 1012's at work in heavy desktop use, and nothing but smooth sailing with them. I'd expect similar from the 1020.

I've also been using a Laserjet 1012 for the past couple of years. No real probs with it other that it not remapping in an RDP session. Cartridges can be a bit expensive if you plan to print a lot. ( carts have 2000 page rating ) If I were to buy one today I would prob choose the Samsung ML-2250. Its carts are rated at 5000 pages, and it supports PCL emulation, so it should auto retarget in Remote Desktop.

I bought a Brother HL1650 ages ago from Staples was around $300, came with a very high capacity toner cartridge. has options for network car and more memory, they were not necessary or cheap though. as well as another paper tray. I have run 11, 069 pages on it so far, its on its third toner cartridge original drum. The model was discontinued but i would buy another in a heartbeat. Also has built in duplexing, (prints both side of paper) Hp is nice and a industy leader but you are paying for a name.
