Laser Pointer + Hyperactive Cat = ...

Fun!

I just found an old laser pointer, and thought I'd see what my cat's reaction to it would be. My cat was in a dark room, I shine the laser on the floor beside him and he immidiately notices it. I start twirling it around him and he starts chasing it. I then start moving it faster and faster, from floor to wall, he always follows it, throws himself at the wall....

Hilarious 😀

BTW, this does not work on dogs as well. Mine just barked. Cats tend to get pissed more I think

It depends on the dog.

My German Shepherd ignores it. Totally doesn't interest him.

My other dog, a Bassador (half basset half lab, and pretty stupid 😛), will chase it all around and into the wall just like a cat. 😀

As stated, dogs are too smart for this. Or too lazy. My dog completely ignored it and gives me that, "What? Did someone say food? EAT? EAAATT!!!" look.

i did this with my german shepherd before she passed... depends on her mood, sometimes she'd chase it around, sometimes she'd be like BAH, don't waste my time!

Umm... Not a good idea, unless you want a blind cat. 🙁 All it would take would be to accidentally hit the cat's eyes with the beam.

Nah, I would never hurt my lil kitty witty 🙂

That's why I shone it directly above from him, but you're right. I should stick with the good old string in the future.

No one is advocating shining it IN the cat's eyes. Looking at the spot created by a class III-A laser is ok. Remember that is why they were made to begin with.

Edit- Just a flash by a rapidly moving beam is not harmful. More than a quarter second, yes.

I can get my cat to do half-pipes down the hallway with my laser pointer. Have a fuzzy thing on a string that I can get him to jump for all. He'll jump 3 feet into the air and backflip when going for the fuzzy thing.

My cats are smart enough to know that the laser pointer really isn't an insect, but they love chasing it around anyway! Whenever I pick up the laser pointer, they stare at me and wait for it shine on something they can pounce on 🙂
