laser eye surgery?

Going to see the optometrist on Thursday and was going to ask about corrective laser eye surgery (LASIK or PRK/LASEK)... see if they think I'm a good candidate for it, and get a recommendation for an opthalmologist. Will try to research opthalmologists myself too, of course.

Has anyone here had either of the procedures? How'd it work out for you?

nope .. too scared. i can see right now with contacts. i don't like the thought of someone hacking my eyeball with a laser. i'll probably cave in a few years, though. there is something tempting about not needing glasses to see.

I had it in January. I am very, very pleased with the results. I had severe dry eye, but even now that's less of an issue. Remember it is surgery, and your body needs time to heal. I would do it again. See if iLasik is an option, they use a laser to cut the flap.

I had LASIK, had to do both eyes twice. May need to do left eye a third time at some point. Right eye is perfect.

Had to use eye drops for 3-6 months after both times it was done.

Would I do it again? Probably.

I had LASIK done 3 years ago. Started out at 20/15 in both eyes immediately after, but my right eye has deteriorated to 20/30 after three years. That's the only problem. No halo, no dryness, nothing negative. It was amazing to go in, sit in the chair with 20/750, see the little buzz saw spinning, see a bright light, and then immediately be able to see 20/15. 10 minutes for both eyes.

I had Lasik 6 months ago. I am now 20/15 in both eyes. My eyes weren't horrible in the first place as my prescription was only -1.75.

I just wish it wasn't so pricey. $3600 total for custom corrective Lasik.

I had it done on my right eye about a month ago, and I still can't see perfectly with it. It's a lot better than right after the surgery, though, when everything was fuzzy as hell thanks to all those drops they make you put in.

That said, it's a lot better than it was before the surgery.

I had PRK done about 5 months ago. My vision is excellent now >20/20, and there were no long lasting side effects. No halos, dryness, etc. The first few days after the surgery were a bitch though.

I had it done about 4 years ago. Not perfect, get some halo's at night (remarkably, they HELP with depth perception), but all in all, it's a damn miracle I tell you. I couldn't drive to save my life if I didn't have glasses on.

My vision has slightly deteriorated over time, but my eye doctors were telling me that was going to happen long before I thought about the surgery, so it was expected. I might have it done again in 10 years if i think its necessary.

Agreed. Got the PRK (with the custom blah blah) about a year ago and results were great. First few weeks for me was aggravating though.

Had it a couple years ago and I still have problems with dry eye and ghosting (double vision in low lighting). I regressed a little as well, from 20/20 to 20/25, but my eye doc said this could be because of allergies (i hate pollen).

i had it done 4 months ago. I have dry eyes, but that's getting a lot better now. First few month, I used eye drops a few times a day. Now, I need them about once or twice a week. It was well worth it for me at $1500. Even better since I used un-taxed money from my HSA account.

Got it done on wednesday, went back to work on thursday.

I had it done about 1.5 yrs ago. I had really dry eyes and was on Restasis for about a year. The dry eyes problem is mostly gone. I keep drops around just in case. I will admit its one thing I don't regret spending all that money on.

I would do it except I am too afraid of the "halos", bad night vision, etc.

Also have floaters so who knows what that would do. 😵

best money I have spent ever! 20/15 in both eyes and no problems really. They were dry some at first(nothing drops couldn't fix) but now they are fine. Its been 5 years now.

PRK in late Dec 2008. Painful for a few days after it. Vision did not become usable for reading for several weeks. Eyes constantly dry out and haze is very bad (both day and night) along with starbursts (at night). I am going back next month to see what he can do about the haze. Currently, I view everything through a smeary windshield. But, it is only portions of my FOV that are bad in different places in each eye, with both eyes I can read.
