Yeah, I saw that too. The guy is a total douche, but he's nothing short of an incredible drummer.

Funny. As much as I love Metallica and don't really care how Lars acts I'd say he's a fairly average drummer. Better than most but incredible? Eh.

Danny Carrey, Neil Pert, Joey Jordison, Dave Lombardo, now those are incredible drummers ;)
Never heard of any of them. Bands they're in?

Neil Pert is in Rush. Too tired to look up the others.

Dear God please tell me you're kidding...

If not, the bands would be Tool, Rush, Slipknot, and Slayer respectively.

And you can bash Slipknot all you want but that little midget is one sick drummer :)

Actually, Lombardo and Joey filled in for Lars at a show a few weeks back when Lars got sick. You should probably be able to find the mp3's of the show on metallica's site. Check them out if you can find them and decide for yourself who's better.
Ahh.

Not a big Tool fan. Rush is cool, but the drumming has never stood out to me? Will have to listen closer.

Don't like Slipknot. Slayer is cool, but again.. the drumming has never stood out to me. I guess it's fast, but fast drummers are a dime a dozen. :p

I guess it all depends on your definition of good. Lars is good not because he's uber fast, or overly complicated.. I dunno, he's just a good drummer. His style isn't the same as a lot of other metal drummers, and that's what makes him good, or something.

Definately you need to listen closer. Probably the most awesome aspect of Rush's music is the drumming/percussion. Peart is undoubtably one of the greatest, most inventive drummers of rock.

well said. lars is very average. not very creative, not very good feel. but he keeps the beat and he hits hard, and that's probably good enough for metallica.

indeed. i'd like to add the drummer from Dream Theater... i'm not the biggest fan, but the drumming sounds pretty sweet...

Neil Pert is awesome.

Interesting that Lars was telling fans to bootleg concerts and demo tapes in the early 80's when the band was trying to break into the scene. Of course, once they made it big then it's no longer 'cool' to bootleg the music.
He still advocates bootlegging concerts(and presumably demo tapes).

Copying a CD isn't the same as recording a concert performance.

Of course it is. Metallica sells concerts on DVD.

While I like that ultra fast double bass kickdrum so often found in metal nowadays, I find a taste of Lars' style refreshing every once in a while.. especially on AJFA and earlier albums.

I mean, Lars does it too.. but it's different, it isn't the basis of the drum track, or something.

AJFA is a masterpiece. Lars has proven his talent, even though I do not care for Black album and later Metallica.

lars is a good drummer who has pulled off some incredible stuff, he definatley has talent and chops, but within the drumming community he isn't really considered incredible. neal peart, steve gadd, carter beauford, buddy rich and many others make up that select group of drummers the drumming community cherish.
