Lars and the Real Girl

I thought this was actually a pretty good movie. It sounds really stupid if you just read a small description about it, but there's a lot more to it than that.

I saw this movie. It was slightly depressing. I thought it was strange that everyone in the town was playing along with the main character's delusions.

unrealistic and stupid.
so timid it makes the relationship chaste.
instead of delving realistically into mental illness it gives us shallow pop psych cr@p. townsfolk who go along with the moron on a level that is mind numbing. and of course it has to be so hollywood that a reasonably attractive girl is still interested in him. whats creepy is that the film makers thought this was worth making.

i agree. it definitely wouldn't be like that outside of a movie. Would be cool if people could pull together and do that though. The world would be a much better place.

i guess i don't take movies, especially ones that are billed as comedies, that seriously.

well it was no comedy because it wasn't funny. it was sad...in that it was so stupid i felt sad that i watched it. it wasn't darkly comic because it was insultingly stupid, dark comedy requires insight and this had none. it was simple minded nonsense. in no way was it a comedy.

let me guess, you're probably one of the people on this board that thinks Talledega Nights is the best movie ever and thought it was hilarious?

I didn't laugh once at Talladega Nights and I laughed several times at this movie.

On another note, 0roo0roo seems to have missed the point of the movie: To point out and hope for an essential goodness and kindness in all people. I appreciated it as a rare and unpretentiously optimistic message.
