The largest in game world so far belongs to Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall which is 62,394 mi². By comparison, Morrowind is 6 mi² and Oblivion is 16 mi². Far Cry 2 will be 19 mi²

I wouldn't even count farcry, crysis or farcry 2 because there are many areas(mountaintops and the like) within the map that you cannot go.
Including those inaccessible areas in the non-linear math just isn't fair.
Crysis never had the open feel of Oblivion or Morrowind.
It looks good but you can feel the deception every time you run into a "wall".

Yep. A few times I managed to get up onto one of those ridges that keeps you on your path and the game told me to go back. Pretty annoying.

Exactly. You know I'm not even into the Oblivion & Morrowind style games but the world is so open I spend a great many hours doing nothing but running around and exploring not really caring about the gameplay or anything. The freedom those games offer is tremendous and still unparalleled.

400,000km ² = 154,440mi²

That is huge. That breaks Daggerfall's size. It is also known as ArmA: Combat Operations in the U.S.

Most amazing part is that its not an MMO and loading times aren't ridiculous.
The island is extremely detailed too.

But, I guess Eve would win. They have a huge playable area.

I am not sure on the actual size of the Original Everquest, but it has to be up there.
