Large Scale Fake-Check Cashing By Young Women Happened Today

So I was in the office today with my boss and his assistant. Just after lunch time, someone called and asked for some verifications. She's the teller at a citibank branch. There were two young women were trying to cash the checks supposed to be from my company. This didn't sound right so we told her to fax it. It turned out that the checks are fake. They missed a letter in the company name, but everything else looked real, routing number, account number, even my boss's signature. That misspelling made the teller suspicious. Good thing she called, and we happened to work today.

So she said the girls were still there, we asked if she could report to the police and get those girls arrested. Well obviously they could not.

After 30 minutes, another citibank branch called in. Same story, different girls. My boss talked to the bank and let them lock the account immediately. Good move indeed. Before I left at 3 PM, there were two more branches called in. All these branches located around 1st Ave and 14th St. It's always two women to go into one branch. The funny thing is at one branch the two women were waiting in the queue, then a third woman came in, those two gestured to the newcomer to leave for the other branches.

I don't know how many women were out today but according to the bank, there were several branches already cashed the checks in the morning.

I don't have the evidence but I think this is related to those legal immigrants we hired before. They did some temporary survey work and we paid them checks. Most of those people are old guys. But there is always an underworld in any community.

Why not?

In my town the bank called the police for one fake check at the drive thru. The cops were there quick and had the idiot trapped in the drive thru. Hauled her away and towed her car.

Damn straight. Native Americans started noticing this a couple of hundred years ago and more.

Whenever there was a wholesale slaughter of their kith and kin, a bogus large scale land grab, or a treaty worth less than a Packard Bell lifetime warranty, it was always those pesky white immigrants at the root of it all.

Damn immigrants. :awe:

lol at the Packard Bell reference, my first PC was a packard bell. We took it back and got a Compaq. wow I'm old school.

Typical. Blame it on the immigrants with 0 evidence.

wait so you blame it on the legal immigrants? Damn we had it all wrong, its not just the illegal ones we should worry about, its all the legal ones too!!

Well actually numerous nations and bands were notorious for their aggressive stances on land, warring with competing tribes, slavery, so on and so forth. So it was nothing they weren't already doing to themselves.

Contrary to revisionist (heavily romanticized) Native American history, the Native American "way" was "Nobody can own the land...but we sure as hell can control any of it that we want with extreme prejudice when it suits our interests."

The difference was purely semantics.

Geez, get over yourself ATOT. He explained exactly why he thought it was the legal immigrants, he didn't just say he thought it was them and then left it at profiling.

uh . . . explanation not found. 😵

Anyway, this occurred in NYC? I think the cops are busy doing other things and don't have time to play whack-a-mole, chasing young women at various bank locations.

this is the worst story ever. I don't know why anyone would bother, but I'd bet its bullshit

how the fuck would you know there were some girls waiting in line at one branch and that they signaled to another woman to go to another branch? what kind of troll post is this...

Did you miss the part immediately following where he said they were paid with checks from their company? Maybe he should've made it it more obvious and said "they were the only ones we paid with checks recently" or something similar.

My wife and I run a business where we work primarily with remote contractors. When the job is done, we used to send them a check printed by ourselves.

Well, as it sometimes happens, one of the contractors moved, but never notified us. We mailed the check to the old address, and it never came back. She notified us of the new address, we put a stop payment on the old one, and issued her a new one.

A month later I started getting calls from local branch and from legitimate companies overseas (in India, for example), asking me to verify whether the check they had was from our company.

They scanned and sent us the checks for review. Everything was legit: all the information, my signature, the account info, etc. Except the background on the checks was different: a standard check background from those checks you can buy at Staples. It was just different.

And, the sums they were trying to cash were huge, but we require 2 signatures on our checks for anything over 2,500.

The perps were trying to present our check issued to them to a legitimate company as means of payment. I found out, this is actually legal and accepted form of payment. If I write out a check to Pete for $100, Pete can give a check to John as $100 payment, and John can accept it as payment. I don't know how the check will be cashed, but banks will accept it under certain conditions.

Anyway, we closed that particular account and later moved to bank's bill pay.

If your company is writing a lot of checks, check with your bank regarding check writing protection. Chase has 2 systems: one, where you transmit them all the numbers of checks you wrote and the amounts, and they verify each check against that list. And the second system is where they simply notify you of every check that exceeds a certain amount, and you have to approve it, before it will be paid.

only the murderer would have this information.

also, you propose the perpetrators obtained an original check to duplicate, they got the sig right but spelled the company name wrong? this means they created their own version of the check...

That's pretty common, and I do it fairly often. I sign the check, and then write "pay to paulney" under the signature.
