Large monitor question

Hi gang. So I've been looking at 28" monitors, but every one is grainy and pixilated, in particular fonts. Text is far from smooth even with ClearType. But the monitors are all 1080p. So I'm wondering, do I need to move to a 1440 minimum to get smoother text?

Of course, even 1080p at 24" is considered fairly low PPI at only 92 PPI
28" 1080p is 78 PPI
27" 1440p is about 109 PPI
40" 4k is 110 PPI

Anything higher than 110-115 PPI will usually require GUI scaling unless you've got great eye sight.

What mnewsham said, there are pretty much only two "mainstream" resolutions not needing scaling
24" 1080p
and
27" 1440p
Second one will give you enough smoothness, but at consequence of smaller text size.

And why is GUI scaling is a bad thing? Because 2D images when upscaled by factor that's not multiple of 100% are going to be blurry. Text is not a problem, it upscales nicely.
So perhaps you can consider 3rd option, 4K display and do 200% scaling ... text will look great, pictures acceptable.
