large lcd users: please post screenshot of real estate usage

i'm trying to decide what size lcd to get. i borrowed a 24" from someone to get a feel for it and i'm finding the screen is just too big for regular desktop usage.

for games and movies the big size is great but for regular usage (office, internet, etc) it feels like wasted space. i imagined that a big lcd would be good for having windows on screen side by side but even 24" isn't big enough for that and the windows are overlapping. with all the windows overlapping you can really only use 1 window at a time like on a smaller monitor.

i'm wondering if i'm not utilizing the real estate properly so i'm asking for screenshots of how everyone is making use of a big monitor.
 
that new samsung 23" that is extra wide (like 2056 x 1150 ) or something, might be better for doing 2 screens side by side.
 
After some time you get used to it. Then you take it for granted if you have to go back to using a smaller LCD (or God forbid a 17" CRT you have to look at to help troubleshoot a family member's computer on...).

At first when I upgraded to my 22" I thought I'd never get used to so much space, but after a week or so you just adjust and become much more productive. I'd recommend getting the 24"
 
I agree with everyone else that you really get used it, and just take it for granted after a while. Then again, I primarily bought my 24" for gaming. I have noticed though that I like to have my Vista sidebar in clear view, which is very easy to do with a wide screen panel. Also, if you ever do any CAD, design, or anything visual, you'll like the extra real estate. A bonus is that it's big enough for me to scoot back while gaming, so when I have my Xbox 360 hooked up to it with the wireless controllers I can kick back and get comfy.

At the office, I actually have dual 1600x1200 screens, and I think it's more useful for the office than a single big screen. If your primary focus is text based productivity I think multi-monitor (4:3 aspect ratio) is the way to go. The dual screens give you plenty of real estate, and having different monitors helps me organize my work space better. Although, this setup would be lame for gaming/movies, since they would either be split down the middle or only on one screen.

I use mine for PC gaming, surfing the internet...all computer usage basically. And Playstation 3 usage as well. My resolution is 1920x1080 and there is absolutely no wasted space.

i love my 24 incher 😀 having enough real estate to have photoshop, illustrator, flash and golive open and useable all at once is very nice for webwork. even ps and illustrator for larger images and vector art is nice. honestly, i could use another too but just don't have the desktop space now

also, when doing solidmodeling it is a nice bonus, being able to see whatever i am working on in addition to other views.

gaming, again, another excellent setup and i can't see going smaller, wouldn't mind a 2560x1600 setup now 🙂.
 
I have a 26" LCD and I love the size, it's perfect IMO. Games and movies are stunning (not only due to size, but also image quality), while regular desktop usage is just extremely comfortable, thanks to both a lot of space to use and a pleasantly large font. I switched from a 1680*1050 22-incher to a 1920*1200 26-incher, and I didn't even need an adjustment period to get used to it.
 
after having a 24" dell now for a couple years. i cry when i have to work on a 17" at the office.

Blasphemy. I have a 30" at home, and dislike the downgrade to the 24" monitor at work. Ideally, I would like 2 30" at home and at work. :shocked:

27" Dell here, the downgrade to 19" LCD at work sucks. I'll probably never go small on screen size again (hmm...OLED...hmmm).
 
Ha ha, at work, we have some small life book computers with 7" screens. Going from a 24" to that will make your eyes bleed.
