Hello, I have not been following the Laptop market that well with the new CPU's and Chipsets.. ect

I need a laptop for my Senior year, and first 2 in collage.

Is there anything that's coming out in the near future that I should hold out for?

Thanks

There's always something coming out. If you constantly wait for the next great thing, you're never getting a laptop 😉

This is a great time to buy though - prices are low, speeds are high.

What's your budget?

Are you looking to carry this around frequently?

Will you play any games on this?

I don't really recommend using a laptop for note taking.

Do you really need a laptop for senior year of HS? If not, just wait till May/June of next year to purchase one (even if you won't be going to college until late August/September, it gives you a chance to make sure nothing is wrong with the machine, etc...).

Budget: Under 1400

I do look to carry this around, looking for 15incher most probaly. looking at toshiba A300

with a Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T9300, and ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 3650

The GPU is ok for games, just going to play basic games, nothing like cyrsis

Edit:

I cant read my hand writing and I was using a laptop for the past 3 year so, yea lol

Perhaps it'd be more worthwhile to not have a laptop, so you can improve your writing 😉

Still, the one listed above doesn't sound horrible. I'd suggest hopping over to Newegg and looking at their ASUS selection - I love my ASUS G series; cost me just over a grand, and has a GeForce 9500m in it.

For $1000:
Asus M51TA (15.4"): uses AMD Turion X2 Ultra and an HD3650: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834220349
--The advantage for this one: can switch to integrated graphics automatically when running on batteries. Marginally slower than a comparable Intel processor.

For $1200:
Asus F8Va-B1 (14.1"): Intel P8400 and HD3650: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834220337

For $1400:
Asus F8Va-C1 - pretty much the same specs, but has a larger hard drive and uses the T9400 processor

I would love to get one of these but, I had a MSI laptop for the past 3 years, now I know asus is probably a ton better then MSI but I want to go with a main name brand for now.

Well, those are the only ones carrying the HD3650. I have an Asus laptop myself and have had zero problems. And IIRC, they are offering 1 year accidental damage coverage on all laptops purchased after 9/2007 + a 2 year warranty on certain notebooks. From what I've read, their service turn-around time for mail-in service is pretty good.

I ordered a Toshiba A300 $ 1,223.20

Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz, 6MB L2, 800MHz FSB),
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic 32-Bit (Installing Win XP)
2048MB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (1024MBx2),
ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 3650 with 512MB DDR2 discrete memory
160GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA),
Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN (802.11a/g/n),
Bluetooth® Version 2.1 +EDR
And I added in a 3 year accidental warranty

total $1450

Thanks everyone
