laptops for Quark graphics program

A friends daughter is interested in graphics arts and is asking for a recommendation for a laptop. I believe that the industry standard is a program called quark.

Do you mean this program: QuarkXPress
-The Wikipedia article says it is the dominant graphics design software in competition with Adobe InDesign.

I didn't see anything on their website about needing a dedicated GPU, but you can always go for a system with one just to be sure to cover any bases and to cover the possibility that they might pick up another design program over time, like Maya, which does utilize hardware acceleration.

What's the budget? If you can give us this, we can dredge up some appropriate systems, but off the top of my head (with no real budget in mind): I'd suggest a Dell Latitude E6400 or the Lenovo T400 (with my opinion leaning towards the T400).

Quark is a 2D app, so it does not require the the 3D capability of a Dedicated GPU. That said, to future proof the purchase, I'd still look at a system with 128 of dedicated video memory.

I would take a look at the new macs since QuarkXpress has always been mostly designed for their systems. Also if she is attending an art school I am positive that most of the machines used will be macs.
