Laptop's din port: RGB function

I have a Compaq nx9420 Its a laptop with a 7 pin din, and i am having trouble understanding what i have to do to make that work right. Do i need a proprietary Din adapter, or will any do? i have a din adapter from a Nvidia card for my desktop, but when i use it on my laptop, it just uses two of the RGB leads. If i use all three leads then the displayed picture is bluey and all tinted. I don't understand why this is the way it is and all the resources i google do not cover my specific issue. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

i do, and it works with SVideo, but then why not just give me a 4 pin instead of 7? If its just Svideo and they give me this sort of connection, why confuse me like that?
