Laptop wouldn't turn on

Farang

Lifer
I close my laptop and let it go into sleep mode. A few hours later I open it up and it is off completely. I press the on button and nothing is happening. I make sure it is plugged in, in case the battery had drained, and it was the whole time. In a last ditch effort I took the battery out and put it back in, and it turned on again.

Is this a sign of things to come? Should I be worried? Is the apocalypse coming?

occasionally that happens with an old laptop I bummed off some friends who weren't using it anymore. If I try to hibernate it or put it in sleep mode, it goes all wonky, and I have to unplug it, yank the batteries, and then put everything back and turn it on.

I don't have an answer, but you're not alone.

That's what I figured.. I feel like a dumbass asking this because it is just a simple problem, but if a laptop doesn't turn on I'm all out of ideas besides pressing the button over and over.

If you want a good answer maybe you could tell us about brand name of your notebook so we or someone else might have the answer with same problem?

What model? I have a Compaq I don't have any problem but it is only 5 months old now it always goes to sleep a lot and I wake it up nothing goes wonky.

try disconnecting the battery and power cord, and hold the power button down for 30seconds straight then replug the power cord and try turning it back on.
