Laptop won't wake up from sleep

Hey everyone,

Recently, my HP Pavilion won't wake up once it's gone into sleep mode. Pushing the power button gets no response, it just keeps blinking. I have to take the battery out and plug it back in, then start up to get it running again. Anyone else had this problem?

What is the OS? How long has this been happening? Can you recall any change that you may have made around the time that this started?

Try Alt+F4. Try CTRL bREAK. also, try Holding the Power button down for several seconds. When all else fails, turn off the SLEEP function and don't start it until you study the manual. Some HPs have a combo switch using the Fn key plus some F key.

Tried all those things, corky. It used to work, but these days just won't.
Stu, it's Vista. I can't think of anything I changed or updated...

Well, if you are running at home, i.e., in a non-mobile mode, I suggest taking the battery completely out and run the HP on A/C only. That way, it should always completely power off and start up OK.

Then go in and turn off all SLEEP options in the Power Manager of Control Panel. This has happened to me, and because of it, I never use the sleep function except for the display. HDDs = NEVER.

Also, disable hibernation. It may be doing that. Check your "Close the Lid" options as well. I suggest that it turn OFF when the lid is closed.

There is also a known problem with Vista.
