Laptop wont install DVD/CDRW burner!

Ok, I have a user at work using an IBM T43 laptop, it came with a DVD rom drive and it didnt work so a new DVD/CDRW drive was ordered. I installed it, XP sees the device and installs some funky drivers (GEARASPIWDM.SYS, IOMDISK.SYS and MX1W2K.SYS). The user said he had an external USB drive that he uses at home so I figured XP was trying to use those drivers. I renamed the 3 files listed above and on reboot got a BSOD 0000007B which referred to the IDE crap. So I had to run a quick recovery console and rename those files back so the system would boot. How the heck can I get the system to use XPs IDE drivers? I dont want to reimage the laptop because the user has so much crap on it and I dont have the time. Any ideas? Thanks.

*RESOLVED*

Went back to a restore point from a couple of months ago.
