Laptop with domain and workgroup connection?

I did a search for domain and workgroup but came up with nothing..maybe I didnt search for the correct thing, but heres my question. (hope title is good)

Ive got a PC (Win98/Win2k) thats connected to a cable modem (direct-no router), everything is fine (PS-the cable access goes by MAC address, not PC name and is DHCP).
Ive got a laptop from work that is set up for domain (its running NT4, also DHCP).

I want to connect the laptop to the cable modem so it can VPN into work, my question is, can I just get a router and then have it emulate the PC's MAC address, serve as DHCP server for me and then connect the laptop and PC to the router?

Will the laptop be able to connect to the net, even though its set for a domain? Im not really concerned with connectivity between the PC/Laptop, just want to get the lappy on the net to VPN.

Thanks!

In order to do what you're describing, you'll probably need to use NAT and run your laptop through the already connected machine with VPN. There may be some utilities out there that will fake MAC addresses, but you might try checking these threads from CNET (taken from a what-the-hell search on Yahoo), to see if that might help. 🙂
