I've had one before. They're not as bad as they sound, although it's really 15 pounds (3 pounds for the PSU, no joke). Just get a good-quality laptop backpack with padded straps & make sure you use both straps to distribute the weight. It's not any worse than carrying a couple of textbooks around.
Agreed. My HP Elitebook 8760w was a monster like that. Glad I never carried it all day... but it was so dang good to use! Great keyboard and best lappy screen I've ever had.

My days of carrying textbooks in a bookbag are long gone, i hope :). My work laptop was a HP elite book 8460P and that thing was a clunker. just carrying it between buildings or even worse, business travel made me cringe after a while, and the thing only weighed 5.5 lbs

So, I'm reconsidering my upcoming laptop purchase thanks to the 7th-gen Intel CPU announcement:

https://www.engadget.com/2016/08/30/intel-7th-generation-core-cpus/

5% CPU utilization while playing back 4K video. Laptop chips available starting in September. That, and I'm running a desktop GTX980 right now & the GTX1060 looks like it compares pretty favorably:

I was planning on a laptop with a i7 & GTX1080, but a thin & light would be awfully nice, especially at a vastly reduced price. Asus has a VR-ready laptop sporting a 6th-gen i7 & GTX1060 on Newegg already...for $1,400:

That's a pretty dang reasonable price for what you get. I'm in no rush & would rather wait for the 7th-gen chips, but it's nice to see that the mobile GPU's are readily-available & also available at a reasonable price!

It's definitely tempting to have a reasonably light 1080p laptop that can actually game at 1080p.

Perhaps in a few months the prices will drop a little -- for $1,4000 I'd like a model with a 500 GB SSD instead of 1 TB spinner.

You are all peasants.

This is the only laptop worthy of consideration for AT master race going forward.

I think I would need 3 kidneys to purchase this.

:) I already have a desktop PC for my main gaming system, this would be for a laptop that can also game well just because, for reasons. I'd rather have thin and relatively light for that.

yeah, I was joking. I can't see any real benefit to a monster like that, where a powerful 1440+ desktop and solid, light 1080p laptop would be an overall better (and cheaper) option. It strikes me as a concept design--like those concept cars that manufacturers roll out to the big car shows with no intent of ever producing them.

Yes, including the curved screen which is pointless on a tiny monitor. They should add a vacuum tube amp for the sound, and mention that it's gluten-free :)

It's a nice jump forward for GTX 1080 SLI to be 8 pounds instead of 12+, but it's not for me.
