Just so you know, Intel preffers Pentium-M for the future. They are killing NetBurst (P4) in favor of Pentium-M based design. At least I've read that somewhere.

My cousin had that same decision to make with his Dell he got 3 days ago - he chose the P4.

For laptop, it's Centrino all the way. It's several times more efficient per joule of energy than P4, so you get great battery life. And performance is on par with P4 for most applications.

Excatally. Battery life portability. Sinceyour posting on this site you most likely have a high end desktop no need for a 8 lb laptop.

I don't know anything about laptops. Are Pentium-M the same as celeron's? If not, how comparable is the power of Pentium-M, celeron and Pentium 4?

Here is a review of the new Dothan, which is the new P-M, aginst the A-64M, P4M, the old P-M(banias) and a desktop, the Dothan does very well. Plus that battery life ohh the battery life. Oh and no they aren't the same as celerons, although I think intel is comming out with a Celeron-M.

Definitely opt for the Pentium M... it's by far the best choice in a laptop. The only thing I wish I could have gotten with my powerbook is a processor that gave similar batt life. They are truly a great processor and nothing like the celeron! I remember reading a while back that the 1.6 P-M (origional core) was about equivalent to a P4 desktop processor @ 2.4ghz. I would assume the new dothan @ 1.8-2 ghz would be very snappy!
